Golf can sometimes be boring, even for a fan, and so can pool. I don't know if they'll edit it, but I think most guys will be agonizing and bored at watching Jememy Jones cleaning his shaft and applying powder after every shot in the U.S. Open. I don't know if they'll show Archer's match, but watching someone set up...back off and go through those antics with every shot and every game will be a tough pill to swallow. Golf IS harder to play, no question, so you got that wrong. The rest is on target.

ALL HAIL DRIVERMAKER!!!!!!!!!

Hey Bazooka...you know that big wad of bubble gum that got misplaced and you ended up sitting on it and the funny way it got all tangled in your butt hairs...rip it out and start chewing again so you can blow a nice big hairy bubble with it for us. Still seems like buffoonery wherever you go.

Ouch! I was just busting your balls a little (pardon the pun).
But it seems you are getting upset. So, for the sake of the continuation of this post in a less hostile direction I'll bow out.

Big hairy bubble?

How about this
I do not PERSONALLY like golf.

Big hairy bubble?

I love both golf and pool.

That said, golf is an UNQUESTIONABLY SUPERIOR game to pool. In fact, pool is classified as an AMUSEMENT by many people, and golf is classified as a SPORT. (I personally feel they are both sport)

If watching golf is so boring, why in hell are the networks pouring GAZILLIONS of dollars into telecasting same?? Hmmmmmm??
(whereas pool tournaments can't draw flies, either in person or on TV)

It is EASIER to become a proficent pool player versus proficent golfer. Therefore, I feel true excellence in golf requires more talent. Think of all the many more variables faced in a game of golf versus a game of pool. (14 clubs to learn, wind, trees, rough, different grasses, course conditions, etc, etc, etc) Plus, the icing on the cake is that one is played in the great out of doors, where people should spend most of their time, and the other is primarily played in some smoky old joint, sometimes inhabited by some questionable characters. (smoky old joints containing questionable characters CAN be a lot of fun, which is a part of pool's lore for me)

The TRUTH should prevail, rather than one WANTS the truth to be.

Smokey ole joints are my reason for being. And I am somewhat of a questionable character. No...........wait..........that is.......my character is questionable.

The big difference between pool and golf is that in golf everyone is competing against every other player in the tournament, whereas in pool the winner just had to defeat a few of the players. At any time in a golf match a player can gain or lose ground on the field with one swing of the club.

But, there are tons of scratch golfers out there - they just can't handle the pressure of professional play.

Corey was at the FL Tour event in Orlando and didn't make it to the $$.

The FL Tour is also bankrolled by the Seminole Tribe. They have tons of money from gambling interests here in FL and would be the richest sponsor that pool has if they decide to put a big tour together. Great thing if they do.

Golf........
I grew up on a golf course and in the golf capital of the world as far as the concentration of big name pro's go. I also believe here around central Florida we have more courses per capita than anywhere else.

By comparing the two games I can only think of Golf as Checkers and Pool as Chess. Pool takes a lot more finesse on every shot, where golf requires physical brawn in certain situations. Also if I make a bad shot in golf I still have a chance to make it up on the next stroke or hole. If you make a bad shot in pool you may be going home early. Also the reason there is more money in sponsors in golf is that you constantly have to buy accessories to keep playing and greens fees run from $45 - $250 per day each player, a big difference from pool.

Just my thoughts and some would die for either game.

We've been having this debate for years now! There is no right answer. If you have the natural abilities for golf, pool is going to be harder to get good at and vice versa. Personally, I don't like golf because it's too boring for me. You take one whack at the ball and then you have to walk to it, wait for everyone else to shoot, and then you whack it again with a different club. How do you get into that? Besides, you're dependent on the weather and the sun. I can play pool in just about any weather and I don't need any sun light either. I'll take pool any day!

Golf a boring game, huh? What an absurd remark!

Golf is a SUPERIOR sport to pool. It requires MORE talent. That is the TRUTH, and the truth should prevail, regardless of what somebody wishes the truth to be.

CActus, sounds to me like you've been in the
desert too long & your brain dryrotted. I'd
rather watch 2 mice make love on a fuzzy
screen than play or watch golf. Vive le billiardes!

Both apples and oranges are spheres, both are fruits, both are edible, both have rinds, both have seeds, both weigh about the same, both can be thrown about the same distance, both burst when dropped from a high distance. Except for the color and the taste they seem pretty similar to me.

the nature of pool allows for more upsets,,,ie, there's a better chance for the lesser talent to win. while upsets are part of game playing, pool is particularly unrewarding, and in that sense, requires less talent to be competitive.

what's this!:):) the watchable merits of pool vs. golf being discussed on a pool forum? duh!!! :)

the demographics say pool sucks to everyone but us. the average male sports viewer only likes watching jeanette wiggle her ass. end of story.

What was the last tournament he shot in anyway?

I can't tell you the last tournament he was in, but I can tell you what tournament he'll be in next week starting on the 20th or 21st. It's a week long pro-am golf tournament being held in the Atlanta area. It includes Archer, Jeremy Jones, Varner, Dueul, Strickland, Davenport, Buddy Hall, and one more that I can't remember. If it's such a lousy sport, why are the big boys of pool dedicating a whole week to it? Sounds to me like some of you need to broaden your horizons and minds and learn what they've all learned. There's more to life than pool, but you probably feel the same way about women as you do about golf.

That's fine, get over it now.

Kim Davenport? This is the first time I have heard his name come up since his tragic accident. Good to hear he's out and about and getting some R&R.

Now the question is which one of these pool players is the best golfer this coming week in Atlanta. Archer is currently living in this area, probably knows the golf course well. Strickland is a tough competitor as well.

Drivermaker, if you are able to attend, keep us posted on the outcome.

I won't be attending, but I can assure you that the pool players also want to answer the question of who is the best golfer and will be just as competitive there as on the table. Archer does know the course like the back of his hand, but there will be practice rounds. Kim is playing golf on a regular basis but not competitive pool. Life still has to go on and it was very unfortunate. They are all looking forward to having a blast next week.

The reason so many top pro pool players also play golf is because they can. And they are good at it.

Ever notice that a person who is talented in one sport is also multi-talented?

Golf draws players from all the sports. Their main job is the sport that they excel in and get paid to do - golf is their way to relax and enjoy life.

And if you are in the business world you better be able to play golf if you want to close those deals or meet your contacts.

And tell me a sport where more money is spent than on golf?

I gave up on golf because I just couldn't hit a driver and alergies prevented me from being out in the fresh air come August. And now that I am down in Florida the first thing the Dermatologist told me was to keep out of the sun. So no golfing or being a beach bum for me. As a result I took up pool. Now I have to wonder if getting cancer from second hand smoke is just as bad as getting cancer from the sun.

Initiation fees down around Naples start at around 50K.
