I was just curious if anyone has tried a ferrule made of corian and if so how did it perform both feel and durability?

I haven't done a corian ferrule but I have done joints, butt caps, and rings. It works just fine. Glues well, finishes well and is almost indestructible. It drills and turns easily.

Corian ferrules came out in the late 80s and I tried them then. They made a funny noise when shooting. Kind of a click sound. And they cracked easily. The company that was selling them quit carrying them after several months. I suspect others had similar experiences. Corian may be made from a different formula now. If so they may play and hold up better.

Not even close Kim.
Are you sure you are talking about Corian ?
They have no linen or canvas in them.
They'd get destroyed as buttcaps.
They don't come thicker than 3/4" either.
I can see it as a capped joint collar or ferrule though.
Schon used them as fake ivory inlays.
As buttcaps, they're meat .

Hey Kim,

I agree with Joey.

Cue maker Todd Schaler was a commercial certified corian installer in a past life and he was at my shop yesterday. He told me of this post and said that it would have a propensity to crack in this application.

You may be right but I haven't had a problem.
