Are there any issues or problems coring handles with Birch? From what I have read, it seems to be strong enough, similar to maple. Any input is appreciated. Thank you, Tony Layne

I made four cues cored with laminated birch dowels.

No issues or problems. I think they were lighter than the maple if my memory serves me.

Birch should be fine, as you said, very sim to maple. IMHO - its non-use
in pool cues has been due to appearance.

Thanks guys.

I was just curious because when I did a search here on AZ, I came up with zero discussion. Which in turn, made me think that no one has used it for coring, and or it's just not acceptable to use in making a pool cue. Thanks for the feedback.

I use it when weight is an issue. It is lighter than the maple but not by much. Sometimes you need all the help you can get and the birch helps.

I'm milling my own yellow birch trim for the woodwork in my new basement poolroom .... all I can say is be careful, that is some slivery wood !
