Cork wrap opinion?

I play with a solid bacote Jim Pierce with black rings and I was thinking of changing my black and brown linen wrap to a cork wrap. Any opinions on what this might look like? Also, does anyone have any experience playing with cork wraps and can offer opinions? My last concern is living in Texas, will the humidity/constant weather changes have any negative effects on the wrap? I wouldn't much care if it wasn't so expensive to have put on my cue. Thanks :)

Courtney, I have never played with a cork wrap but you should hear from folks that do. I am afraid to try them because, even though they probably differ in manufacturing processes, I have used cork handles on fishing rods and did not like them. They get dirty really quick, and they start crumbling apart with age. Now, I don't know if the cork cue wraps do this, but this is why I have shied away from trying one. Being a Texan myself and having hands that sweat a lot, I have found a stacked leather wrap to be the best thing for my taste. Hope you get the answers you are looking for.

Thanks, I am a HUGE fan of the stacked leather wrap, its AMAZING, but I didn't want to be away from my cue long enough to have one put on... Sad I know!
I didn't think about fishing rods, thats a great point! If I make it out to Vegas this year, hopefully the Tiger booth will be there and I'll have the stacked leather one put on.

Cork wrap

Howdy Courtney, I have a cork wrap C series Mcdemott (20+) years old and a newer Bert Schragar with a cork wrap, have lived in Texas for 30 years and have not had a problem with the cork wrap and Texas humity.

I do not leave them in the car and also they are in boxes cases not tube stlye cases
Hope this helps in your choice

I have an '86 Joss with a cork wrap.Mike Webb did a great job on it.
But it doesn't feel good when it's humid.
I prefer the linen.

My buddy played with a cork wrapped PFD cue for a couple of years. He liked the feel of the cork wrap very much and it held up really well.

I played with it a couple of times and also liked the feel of it.

As far as how it would look with your bacote, I suppose aesthetics are always subjective but it seems to me that the tan cork would compliment the dark brown color of bacote very well. You can always get a small sample piece of the cork and view it with your cue.

Best,

I own a SCHRAGER with Cork, it was what Bert Offered, I like it. But it warped the Cord because I have very acidy sweat.

I've played with a cork wrap for over 5 years now and would not play with anything else if I have the choice.. Mine has held up wonderfully with now crumbling or break down as another poster stated. YMMV

I've had one done by Paul Drexler and my latest by Jack Madden.. Both did an excellent job.

Paul and Jack do super cork wraps, Scot Serbine also does awesome cork wraps also, you just do not see a lot those these days, kind of gone the way of Cortland wraps.

I just switched from linen to cork due to having overly sweaty hands and the humidity in GA. I can say that humidity does not have nearly as much an effect on cork as linen. I would go as far to say it's even better than leather, as any leather wrap that I've played with tends to get kind of slimy in the humidity. Just my $.02.

Thanks for all the information everyone. Now I can't decide between stacked leather and cork... I think the stacked leather will look better, so I'm leaning more towards that direction. Thanks again!

Cork wraps are awesome. Brown cork will get dirty very quickly though. I'd recommend getting a black cork wrap.

Guido put a Cork Wrap on my Magic Wand.... 6-7 years later , it's still good. But it's the playability that's nice...
Guido does that trick real well....

Yeah I’m gonna reach out to him. Heard he’s one of the best when it comes to corkers.
