Correct way to store shaft?

Although it doesn't really matter, the ferrule has no moving parts and the downward force surely won't deform the tip anyway, I place joint protector up. If you wanna keep the bottom of your cue tube free from chalk (not big deal to me), you can try joint protector down.

Soft case tip up. Hard tube case joint up.

I just bought a case where that doesn't matter. They can in either way. I like the tips up that way I can tell what shaft to grab based on if it has been chalked or not. I have seen some JPs that have numbers on them for indentification purposes. I thought that was pretty innovative.

I store my cues with the joint protectors facing up. I find that if I store them with the tip-side up, they rattle around in the case a little more. Not to mention, when I grab them out of my case, I would rather be grabbing the joint protector than getting my oily hands all over the tip 
I put joints up on shafts and butts.
It is easier for me to get them out of the case.
I can put the shaft into the case and then install the JP. I find this easier than having everything spread out. It is also easier to remove the JP's when in the case and then assemble the cue.
I have the JP's marked 1 and 2 so I know what shaft it is. Use a small self adhesive paper dot for this. Also adds a little color to help find if I drop it.
