Correcting pocket angles (without subrail extensions)

How much, if any, can you effectively correct the pocket angles on an older Gold Crown (Monarch Rubber) without replacing cushions and extending subrails?

Can the existing rail ends, and/or, replacement facings be sanded to the corrected dimensions enough to make a real difference? What are the limitations to this on an older table being recovered, where the existing cushions will remain?

Thanks in advance for your insight.

You're only talking about a portion of the repairs needed on older GC's. Besides correcting the pocket miters and down angles, you also really need to do something to repair the endgrain of the subrails in the pockets Tearing up the pocket facings isn't the only damage that gets done to the pockets. If you don't repair the ends of the rails, the pocket facings will still give a little, as in compress inward and change the pocketing of the balls. The end of the rails need to be stiff, and have no give in order to support the pocket facings correctly.

Most of the GC's I rebuild the rails on, the cushions are still OK. The reason the subrails get cut off and replaced is not because of the cushions, they get replaced because of the shattering of the end grain of the subrails in the pockets. I have only come across a few GC's that didn't have subrail damage, and never on GC1's or 2's, most all of them have damaged rail ends.

Thanks for your reply Glen,

I am helping my local pool room owner improve the condition of his tables (on a limited budget) and there are a couple of tables that the existing Monarch cushions will remain, so replacing wood will not be an option.

Much appreciated!

Here's an interesting way, I'm currently working on these rails and the mechanic before me used Hot glue or silicon to glue the facings on and adjust the angles

looks like a real accurate method :P

but I guess that method will fit any budget.

Make sure you take pics after you fix the hatchet job, Donny.
Oh, I need those extensions for Jeff.
I'm hand delivering his cushions and facing on Dec 17.
