Resurrecta.........help yourself to my thread......post anything you like since so far
my efforts have been in vain. From what I've seen, Hurlbert makes the best Irish
Linen today and it's made in the USA in Massachusetts.
However, Hurlbert linen is machine twisted like all the other Irish Linen lines today
whereas Cortland Linen was hand twisted which ensures much better conformity
and uniformity of every single strand of Irish Linen thread, as well as every
strand of Flax that's added and woven in durability. I have not found any Irish
Linen made today that compares with the quality and "feel" of Cortland Linen.
Cortland Linen died mostly because of the higher labor costs of production and of
course, the arrival of modern chemistry, i.e., monofilament fishing line. But it's sadly
missed today by so many pool cue owners like myself. As far as I'm concerned, it
just feels superior to anything else, leather or linen, which is why I'm not abandoning
hope yet of finding some Cortland Linen #12. ....but I'm no longer feeling so optimistic.
