Cortland Linen (WTB) White w/blk specs

Resurrecta.........help yourself to my thread......post anything you like since so far
my efforts have been in vain. From what I've seen, Hurlbert makes the best Irish
Linen today and it's made in the USA in Massachusetts.

However, Hurlbert linen is machine twisted like all the other Irish Linen lines today
whereas Cortland Linen was hand twisted which ensures much better conformity
and uniformity of every single strand of Irish Linen thread, as well as every
strand of Flax that's added and woven in durability. I have not found any Irish
Linen made today that compares with the quality and "feel" of Cortland Linen.

Cortland Linen died mostly because of the higher labor costs of production and of
course, the arrival of modern chemistry, i.e., monofilament fishing line. But it's sadly
missed today by so many pool cue owners like myself. As far as I'm concerned, it
just feels superior to anything else, leather or linen, which is why I'm not abandoning
hope yet of finding some Cortland Linen #12. ....but I'm no longer feeling so optimistic.

Only a few weeks left to locate 50 yds of Cortland #12 for a very special pool cue.

My cue won't be finished in time for Worminator's 2013 Cue of the Year Contest
but it could have been a contender. OMG....that sounds like a line from the movie
"On the Waterfront"........"I could have been a contender."

Still in for 2014! Let's start the year off strong! :D

Thanks ideologist......I haven't given up hope but as I mentioned, end of this month I stop the search
for Cortland Linen #12.......two weeks left and counting down.

It's getting like the 7th inning of a 9 inning game.......and my team is still behind..........Where oh where has my Cortland Linen #12 gone?..........48 hr bump.

Next weekend is my drop dead date for finding a spool of Cortland Linen #12.
When February arrives, my search ends which will undoubtedly please many.

Top Dollar Price.....anyone got some Cortland Linen #12 to sell?

Heading into the final stretch........this WTB thread will conclude by month end.

If anyone has 50 yds of Cortland Linen #12 (white w/ black speck) they'll sell,
please contact me this week. I'll pay top dollar price so contact me & find out.

Running Out of Time.......my cue is almost finished.....I can see the home stretch.

Thank you Shooter08 for my Kamui Clear Tips.......Thanks to batalarms for his vigilant
surveillance of the market and helpful messages.....and to Sean for his expert knowledge
about Cortland Linen pool wraps.

The only Cortland #12 I've located was in the vault of Joe Pechauer and MATTY on AZ.
For very understandable reasons, both are guarding their respective inventories and if I
were in their shoes, I'd probably do the very same thing and hoard what I had for myself.

macneilb has some nice beige linen and there's also some on ebay that's a steal but both
are the wrong colors for my cue. In case anyone was interested, both of the aforementioned
beige linens are suitable for a pool cue wrap but the color just doesn't click with my cue design.
This Sunday night my search shuts down for Cortland Linen #12 and I am remain hopeful
that at the proverbial last minute, someone might relent and sell me some for my new cue.

Thanks to all for indulging my persistence in trying to locate some. After you see photos of
my cue, you'll better understand why the #12 just seems better suited for the cue I designed.

p.s. Shooter08...... I added a 3rd shaft so I need another Kamui tip....sent you a PM.

Only two more bumps for everyone to put up with and this thread gets shut down.

I posted a photo of my cue's fancy Bushka Ring design in the Cue Gallery and the
butt sleeve will have 3 Bushka Rings just like on the Scruggs Cue Nick Serdula
recently posted.

Anyone got some Cortland Linen#12 to sell? I don't have much time remaining...only 5 days.

This is it....last attempt.......isn't someone willing to let go of 50 yds of Cortland Linen #12 (white w/black speck)?

Thanks for the suggestions & ideas and also to everyone, thanks for your kind indulgence of my bumps to promote this thread.

I am astounded that no one will part with 50 yards. Especially the guy with the huge spools. Shame on you hoarders. :(

ideologist....thank you for your helpful support.

It's so easy to read someone's post looking to find something that might not even seem consequential to you. I mean what's the big deal....."Some guy is looking for a certain type wrap and can't find it.....so what. Stick another wrap on it, shut up and just play pool."

And then when I post I located some Cortland Linen #9 but I am still looking to get Cortland Linen #12 because I just happen to think it looks nicer. #12 doesn't feel any different than #9 and so the reader of my thread thinks it's just the color I'm being fussy about. Well,I can't argue with that because it's true.

So I also start writing about this great cue I designed, which let's face it.....could turn out to be a flop.... it could have unintentionally come across as me bragging which was never my intention. But if it came across that way and I was the reader, I'd root against this bozo, i.e., me, ever locating what he wants. And the more this bozo persisted, again referring to myself, the more annoyed I'd probably become. At some point, I'd want to post....."Shut the _uck up and quit whining....you got #9 and your cue isn't some show piece cue, By the way,I saw your cue veneers in the gallery and it looks like a bunch of crayons......ugly." That's the human tendency because what seems important to one AZer is easily viewed to be inconsequential to another.

Thanks again for trying to stimulate someone with #12 to sell me some. You can't shame anyone into doing that and you know what, if I were in their shoes, I might do the same thing, There is a very finite amount of Cortland Linen in the entire world and there isn't anymore but only lesser quality linen wraps. I believe it was the manually hand twisting of the fishing line, the uniformity of all of the strand diameters and the selection of different flax used in manufacturing Cortland Linen that make it so unique and different from other Irish Linens.

So when you have a stash of something that irreplaceable, it's just hard to part with any to a stranger. And when the stranger's sale thread is constantly being bumped and there's lots of subsequent posts, you start to think why would I ever want to help this guy out. I understand that and the fact is I'm lucky to have a special cue made. It's not going to be the prettiest cue ever made or the best playing cue.....I realize that as well......but it's a once in a lifetime event.

I'm in the upper 60's age......my income isn't going to change and my life expectancy is obviously finite and coming into the home stretch. This is my only shot at doing this and if I were in my 50's, I'd think differently but I'm a realist. I'm never going to design a pool cue again and this is a cue that will pass onto my son or one of my daughters. This is going to be a cue that they'll remember 25 years from now when I'm gone, or for all I know that could be two months after the cue arrives.....anyway, they recall that their dad designed this very cue and there's a whole history associated with it.

So since this is my one and only shot at doing this, sure I'm being fussy but I really have to be if I want the cue to be the best it has the potential of becoming. That's why I considered lots of cue-makers but I chose Bob Owen. The most important reason I chose Bob is because he was the only cue-maker I spoke with that made me feel my cue build was going to be just as important for him as it was for me. Well, all my experience so far confirmed I was absolutely right....Bob has been a great guy to work with.

ideologist......thanks for all you help.......batalarms has also put in a lot of extra effort trying to help me some Cortland Linen #12. Thanks Marc for your support and help over the past few months with my WTB thread.

Matt B.

p.s. My apology for the verbosity but my search concludes this weekend because my cue-maker needs this wrap really soon. This is my closing "sermonette" for a Sunday.

Too bad you did not find what you need, but it is nice that you get it. Its not hoarding. Its an investment (sometimes sizable) into supplies.

When people come into a thread with pictures of the complete spools they have and say "I got mine, sorry dude" - that is pretty lame. If they just said "it is hard to find, good luck" - I would not feel like ranting. No shame intended... but I hope they feel ashamed now. I hope you snag some before it is too late.
