Cost of cue refinishing

she had it shipped direct to her daughter that is taking up pool again, but from my understanding it looked great other than the dirty shaft and old tip.
This can at times be an uncertain thing. I have done refinishes where I asked if they wanted the shaft spruced up and a new tip installed.
I was told that if I touched the shaft other than 3 inches of new finish at the joint they may never speak to me again! 😅
I've also been in situations where I wish I had cleaned up the shaft after they told me not too.

:ROFLMAO:

I wouldn’t refinish it period. It’s not in bad shape and it’s got patina, nothing wrong with that.

Proficient does great work, if you want to go that route.

I’d leave it as is and enjoy it for 30 more years

I agree.

A cue is only original once. Nothing wrong with patina and some war wounds.

My Joss has never been refinished. Probably I will never have it done. Some would look at at and say it "needs" to be refinished. I disagree, and it is mine, so I win that argument.

I do have cues in my collection that will be refinished, but that's because they have real problems and are not playable, the repairs will require refinishing. At this point, they wait, I have never had one restored or refinished yet. I am prepared to pay well to have it done correctly when the time comes. Yes, the prices are going up, but so is the value of these cues. In some cases the cue value increase is so much it's insane actually. Far more than justifying the cost of any work needed.

Other than that, I leave them alone to grow old gracefully, and I am not afraid to take any one of them out to play with.

A friend just had an older Meucci done by Proficient Billiards. Was about $450 with a new linnen wrap. Actually they charged her $75 more than the price quoted on their web site. When she questioned it, they said sorry price went up. This was with no cleaning up of the shaft.
I'll never again recommend a place for someone to do busisness with as now she's a little upset with me for my recommendation.
I have had mixed results from Proficient. The good was very good at a good price to say the least and the bad was rather disappointing. I have not used them in a long time they may be better or worse? I do my own stuff for myself mostly anymore but Pechauer is as good as it gets PERIOD. However, they will not be cheap or fast. They are amazing and I speak from experience. 100% in all categories!

From my own experience with proficient was not a good one. About 10 yrs ago had a wrapless sent in to have a thumb nail size chip fixed. Got it back and was very disappointed with what they did and charged. I asked for a full refinish and was charged that and extra cause it was wrapless. Then after closer inspection they only patched the chip, they didn't even refinish the cue. On one hand i was extremely pissed cause of what was paid and done. But on the other hand wasn't paying it because someone at league was responsible for the chip and was paying for it. Now I'm a cue maker and fix my own stuff.
