Cost of Pool Equipment

I don't bowl or play golf. Never had any interest in it. If I paid $1000 for a cue and maybe $300 for a case how does this compare to what people pay for golf clubs, bowling ball, bags, shoes etc. I know there is a good resale on pool equipment but a used bowling ball is worthless.

Why is it that some people that golf, play pool, and bowl think that players are crazy to pay $1000 or more for a cue?

How much do people pay to golf or bowl compared to playing pool?

You can also buy golf equipment on the cheap or pay primo prices. If you paid primo, which also included a decent golf bag, balls, and shoes...$1,300 wouldn't cover it. On the other hand if you went the inexpensive route, you could get everything for 1/2 of that or less.

Depending on where you live and the golf courses available, you can play for $20 all the way up to about $400 for 18 holes, and everything in-between.

I don't have a clue what bowling equipment or rates are.

People where I live will PLOP DOWN 500-600 BUCKS for a Driver. For Golf...

Got to Pebble Beach Golf Course in California, and pay 350-500BUCKS for 1 Round of Golf....

Bowling balls range from $30 to a couple hundred for better quality and performance. Bags and shoes can be $40 up to a few hundred depending on brand and extra features. ;)

I guess that's more of a reflection of what most people think of pool, that it's just some skeevy game played in a dive with a cig hanging out of your mouth. :p Not that there's anything wrong with that!

If you get hooked on any game, I think it's easy to go deep into credit card debt. For instance, there's no equivalent of the 1K cue in tennis. But to be a serious player you've got to show up with a minimum of 3 racquets ($200-$300 a piece) in your bag. The bag won't cost more than $50, but you'll be getting a $35 stringing job on one of those racquets every week. You'll have maybe 4 sets of tennis shoes at nearly $100 a pop, 2 each for hard courts and clay ... maybe even a grass-court pair. They'll need replacing every couple of months. And you need some specialized duds, too.

You'd buy balls by the case, especially if you spring for a ball machine, which will set you back a grand. And it's easy to spend 2G a winter for indoor court time on top of all that. Tournaments are usually a little pricier, with no prize money, usually. ... Hell, pool's cheap ... unless you're a lousy gambler.

The cost of tennis gear & golf gear is nothing compared to what you would pay for dues to belong to a country club featuring either or both. You can of course play at public courts &/or courses...but the sky is the limit really.

Pool can be pretty cheap too - use a house stick, play in the afternnons when special rates are on, etc.

Its when you get seriously addicted to any of these that you push that credit card to the max.

Pool is cheap compaired to IDPA, IPSC Pistol Shooting. Wher a nice Shooting Iorn will set you back 1500 Buck up to the Sky is the Limit. Than you got AMMO, Leather, etc., etc.,

I have probably spent as much on Golf equipment (if not more) as I have on pool cues. But golf is a more expensive hobby. As some have already said the green fees alone can be pricey. But one of the biggest differences has got to be chalk compared to golf balls. Chalk is normally free, but even if you have to by it its cheap and lasts a long time. Golf balls on the other hand can get up to 3 or 4 dollars per ball, and I have seen people only get to hit them one time (never happend to me of course :D ) I have never lost my chalk in the woods and had to replace it during a game LOL.

Not to mention shoes, gloves, and all the other crap that goes along with golf.

I also know a guy that has spent SEVERAL hundred dollars on a baseball bat, now to me that was nuts LOL.
