Well most of the Summer our local Pool Playing Room/Place is Closed for Building Renovations (Upgrading the Bowling Alley to ULTRA MODERN)

I have been forced to Pay to Play. As normally my HomeOwners Association FEES, pay for all my Pool Playing.

Best deal I have is a 15 mile roundtrip drive, and $2.00 for the day, and for me that is 3-4 hours of pool.

But I see in the surrounding communities many of the Commercial Pool Rooms get up to $8.00/hour to play.

Was curious what rates to play (per hour, or?) are in other areas.

My area is close to Phoenix AZ....

here in Wheatland ...

Here in Wichita, it runs $7.00 an hour, with special times for $5.00
for a 9 footer.

Some rooms will open a 7 footer for $5.00 an hour, with special
late night times for $3.00 an hour.

oversized CO 7 footers are .75 a game here. 9 ball challenge tables are .50

Around the Denver area players are charged $3 - $4.50 per hour per person and $8 max for the table. Some venues charged a flat $8 per hour per table during evenings and high demand time.

Here in Valdosta, GA, CJ's charges $8 an hour with no break for one person on the table. The pukin' owner is so cheap that he charges $1 to rent a pool cue. So, I go out of town to play.

California Billiard (in Moutain View, CA) charges $7/hr - very nice place!!! They also have membership for unlimited pool until 7pm for $100/month.

Other place I go to, in San Jose, charge $6/hour - not as nice as California Biilard but closer.

Up in Sacramento area, it's around $5 hour.

Some places in Chicago:

Chris's Billiards - the famous pool room where The Color of Money was shot: $2.75 hr/person until 6PM, thereafter $3.25 hr/person (I think)...

Chicago Billiard Cafe: $5.50/hr, but have specials everyday: M-F, noon to 5PM for $5 flat, or 3PM-8PM for $7 flat; also have lady's night where the gals play for free after 8PM, also on Wednesdays from 9PM-2AM it's a flat $10, I think; also on Sat-Sun, noon-6PM for $10 flat fee. Nice place to play.

Lakeview Billiard Cafe: Noon or 1PM to 7PM, $7 flat fee, new ownership, totally refurbished room, new cloth on tables, new bathrooms, if on the first rack of balls you break the 8 ball goes in, the afternoon is free. Must be witnessed by one of their staff.

G-Cue - downtown, very upscale, delicious restaurant food, full bar, two floors with Gabriel tables and Super Aramith Pro Balls, 7 days a week from 11AM til 7PM for only $8 flat fee; after 7pm, it's $8.00/hour. Very nice place to play.

Crickett's Poolroom in Princeton, Indiana-

25 cents per player for a game of Snooker. Loser pays. Hard to beat those rates.

Just be glad you don't live in Manhattan. I hear that at some place it is $26 per hour.

Well I am sure that is Cheap compaired to Japan.... ;)

The place I used to play in Japan was about 400 yens per person so it was around $4 or a bit less per hour per person. The players pay according to how long they have played and the charges are not based on how long the table has been rented. There are always special discount for someone who spends longer hours.
For example, if I play by myself for an hour and then you join in and start playing with me for another hour, and then I go on to play with my other friend for another hour--when we are done, I will tell them my name and they will tell me how long in total I have played, which is three hours; you will tell them your name and they will charge you for one hour. The interesting part is that three hours is usually not 3x400yens because they give out discount on longer play--it will be something like 1000yen for three hours. You can take a break and someone else can use your table and it really does not matter because you are being charged on how long you have been playing; not how long the table has been rented to you.
Mind you I was not living in Toyko. I know that it is much more expensive in Toyko.

How would they know if you stopped play though? Do you go up to the counter to tell them? I knew some halls give breaks, but i never used it, rather i would play the few hrs straight.

In Japan, most players do not care about stopping the time because the longer they play, the better the rate it is per hour. If they stop the time, then they have to start over again to get the better rate.

The poolhall does not turn on the table, they turn on the time under the name of the player. So, the player can switch from one table to another every half an hour and it does not matter.

All the poolhalls I have been to in Japan give their customers hot towels (all wrapped individually and sanitized) when they walk in so they can refresh themselves.

If I remember correctly I think one of our local places is 10ish an hour :(

I play at a private club that is 10$ a year for my membership though :) (9 footer too)

Holland, Mich

Golden 8ball: charges 2$ per hour per person all the time, they do have ladies night on thursday. And not sure if they still do it but on Weds from 5pm till close it was like 5$ to play.

Q-stick Cafe, mon-thur 3$ per hour per person, and fri-sun its 8$ per hour flat rate doesnt make any sence lol.

Guppies: is 3$ per hours all the time, has all Diamond tables, but no pro-shop lol. so if something happens you hafta goto Golden 8ball lol or Q-stick.

The place closest to me is 4,5, or 6 per hour depending on the table. I've only been there a few times I'd rather drive an extra 15 minutes to Massachusetts which has a smoking ban. That place is 10 / hr normally 8 / hr if you play in their leagues which I do.
Truth be know I very rarily pay table time. On league nights I can play from open to close for only the cost of the league which is 10 bucks, other than that I play at home.

$5/hr before 7pm, after that, $14/hr. Nice place, great food, good atmosphere....

Unless - you are a BCA league member, you get free pool anytime Sun-Thurs. :D

Well worth the $20 membership fee.

London

You guys should try coming over to the UK! Victoria in London is pretty much the best place to play - a lot of the top ranked UK players play there regularly, and there's always some money action.

It's £10 an hour (about $18 with the current exchange rate) for a regular club table, or £15 ($27) an hour for one of the pro tables, with the aramith pro balls.

Man, that hurts my wallet!

At Doc & Eddy's in Albuquerque, it's $3.50/hr with 50% league (BCA) discount, except on Friday, = $1.75/hr!

I go to two different places.. one being the University Union building which is 5.50 an hour because i'm a student, but the tables are ok-ish.. and then there is this other bar that I go to that is 6$ an hour.. but there aren't that many pool halls around where I live.. 6$ is what ever is running... is competitive i guess
