I came across a couple of nice one piece house cues. Just wondering what the cost would be to convert one to a two piece sneaky pete. Something simple - flat faced joint - maybe a 3/8 x 10 pin - no collar.

Thanks,
Harry

If using a 3/8-10 pin, you'll either want a collar or some type of insert in the shaft to prevent it from splitting. I've done them for people without either and one has come back after it split the shaft. I had suggested the collar, but the customer decided against it. If using the shaft that is cut from the one-piece, I have charged $35.00-$40.00 for the conversion.

Thats a fair price if nothing is done other than cut it and install a pin...and use the house cue shaft. Prices jump if you want collars, custom shaft, and a finish.
He's correct too...you'll definately need a collar with a big pin or you run a very good chance the shaft will split. If you want no collars...I'd suggest going with one of the 5/16 pins & brass insert.;)

You can also do a phenolic insert in the shaft that will protect the shaft from splitting with 3/8-10 flat face joint. Of course, it will add to the cost of the finished product.
