Coth: Simonis VS. ???

I've tried simonis and Championship tour edition in the worst environment....a pool room. multiple users; from bangers to semi pros, spilled drinks, etc.

the tour edition outlasted the simonis by 3 to 6 months and it seemed to get faster with age. the only thing that I disliked was the skid marks from the power breakers and the wannabes trying to jump balls.

You get those with Simonis too.

860 is the tried and true, universally accepted premium cloth. Why in the world would anybody quibble? Think about how it will feel if you don't like the "other" brand.

Although the general consenses seem to be that 860 is the best, I put Championship Tour 3030 on my home table & it plays & looks just like the 860 I've played on for years. Very smooth & fast. I did quite a bit of research before buying & most reports I saw rated the 3030 just as fast as the 860 & longer lasting. As for wear, I only put about 10 hrs a week on the table so it should last me at least 10 years. Saved about $60-70 but over the life of the cloth that's nothing. I saved some money & am quite satisfied but considering the clothe on your home table should last a lot longer that that at the pool hall, I don't see price as a deal breaker. Buy what you like because you're going to have to live with it for a long time.

I recently installed championship tour edition on a table that I sold. I played a few games and it is fast and very similar to simonis. I believe the difference is the thread count per inch. Regardless, it played very nice and much like simonis. I would recommend it on home tables where it will be taken care of. Long lasting and affordable.

You must also understand that most tournament tables use simonis 860. If you are training or plan on getting into tournaments, I'd recommend testing a table already equiped with 3030 tour edition to see if you like it yourself.

Just my opinion

Championship Tour actually plays like Simonis 760, not 860. Tour 3030 plays faster than 860 which is why I got rid of it after a year of use and went back to the tried and true of Simonis cloth.

Something else to consider is fast cloth and tight pockets makes them tighter. At least that's what I thought. Maybe it was my imagination.

Our equivalent to Simonis 860 in speed, composition and durability is Granito Basalt. (BA76 or BA64)

Our equivalent to the faster Simonis 760 is Granito Tournament 2000 (GT76 or GT64)

we believe Gorina?s quality matches if not beats Simonis, and our pricing is definitely better.

I currently have simonis 860 cloth, but it's getting real close to the time to replace it. I have a 9' table and the best price I can find is $251.75. I was just wondering if there is a simonis 860 look a like that anyone would recomend? thanks Ray

Look alike? Velocity Pro ($139)
A newer, worsted cloth that has been gaining in popularity.

Tried and true? Simonis.
Ever notice how all other cloth is "compared to Simonis"?

Please consider Milliken Super Pro. We have been selling it for five years and it's gaining ground.

Room owners are replacing Simonis with Milliken and not telling their customers because they don't want to hear the griping. Why? SuperPro lasts longer and costs less and plays great from the first moment it's on the table.

Last week my friend told me a story about a player who was complaining when the room owner told him that the cloth he was playing on was Milliken. The player reportedly said something like why don't you use Simonis like Bill at xxx-pool room. What the complaining player didn't know is that "Bill" has Miliken Super Pro as well.

The reason everything is compared to Simonis is because Simonis is the 800lb gorilla in the room when it comes to worsted cloth. They have been at it for a century in the USA and several centuries in Europe. But they are not now and have never been the ONLY choice in high end pool table cloth. Strachan, the mill that makes SuperPro, has been in business making cloth as long as Simonis and they are the big dogs in the snooker cloth market.

Simonis is a great cloth. It's however not what ALL tournaments are played on. Nor is even what all pool rooms have on their tables. So the fact is that if someone puts Simonis on their table then they are likely to be at a competitive disadvantage if they should happen to go to a place that didn't have Simonis.

That is IF their game was so weak that it was totally dependent on the speed of the cloth.

For me the differences between Milliken Super Pro, Granito, Championship Worsted, and Simonis are so slight that I can adapt to any of them within ten minutes.

Now if you take a cloth like what was used in the recent China Open? That stuff is WAY WAY different to what I call "real" pool cloth. Which is why foreign players stuggle on it. For this reason next year we will send that cloth to our sponsored players well in advance of the big Chinese events and let them get used to it.

But if you like Simonis and you want something that is comparable and lasts longer then Super Pro is definitely a top choice.

I'm pretty sure they make a version of simonis 860 that is more synthetic and is supposed to last a really long time. Of course it's more expensive but you don't have to replace it nearly as often. It's called Simonis 860HR.

Edit: Q-Masters just recovered all of their gold crowns in the tournament room with tournament blue Simonis 860HR :)

860HR will last nearly twice as long as regular 860 and cost the same price. You would think it would or should cost more but it doesn't.

Just guessing here but considering this thread is over 2 years old I'd guess the OP has already recovered his table long ago.

Nice commercial tho, JB. :boring2:

that can be said about any cloth
