Couldn't buy the DVD's so

I just had to figure it out. What do you guys think? Did I fold the cloth correctly on the corner pockets of this Valley table? I think it came out awesome! Who needs those DVD's anyway?:smile:
ummm....unless that is a side pocket (and i know it's not) then no. there shouldn't be a fold in the corner pockets ...although if your happy then who cares...

Really, would the DVD's have covered that? Notice how I put the fold on the short rail facing up so the pocket would accept balls better coming down the long rail? I may have to glue that fold down later though as there's quite a bit of extra cloth there.:thumbup:
Yes, the DVDs covered how to install the rail cloth on Valley style rails, and no there's no folds in the corner pockets. If you're happy, that's all that really counts.

Come on guys stop treating me like the brain injury guy who's trying his hardest. I was just kidding with you. You know that's a pretty ridiculous rail cloth install. Who in god's name could be happy with that? I took that picture last night at league in the opponent's bar. Have no idea who did it but at least you know why I want to do it myself around here.:smile:

No, the DVDs covered Gold Crown style rails and Valley coin-op style rails. There's no way to cover all the different kinds of rail recoveries on one DVD.
Trust me, I KNOW what kind of work the so called table mechanic's up in the Portland, OR area do, I feel for you, but my hands are tied on this one as I don't have any control over the distibution of the DVDs Jay and I made. I understand Simonis's postion, that's all I can say.

What was the extent of work he did? I'm 4 hours from Portland and am afraid my GC3 table needs more than one day's worth of work at this point. Actually I'm torn between fixing this one up and upgrading it. The Formica on the rails is beat to hell and some of the pocket iron anchors in the rail ends are coming loose. Am seriously considering having the rails re laminated with real wood but by whom? The subrail extensions need to be redone correctly too. Am trying to buy a whole set of rails on E-bay that haven't been recovered 20 times like mine have. If I can acquire them I can ship them off to the right person for some custom work done. I had the pocket irons copper plated about ten years ago and they still look really sharp today and the rest of the table is in good shape. BTW I have the DVDs on the way now.:smile:
The body/frame of my table was in good shape, so he did subrail extensions, all new rubber, leveled the table and the slate, then recovered everything. The subrail extensions he did at his place (came the week before and picked them up, though he said he can do it all at the customer's house if necessary), but everything else he did in one day at my place.
Relaminating the rails is something you'd have to ask about, I have no idea. Finding the replacements does sound like a good idea though.

It's nice that you have the DVD's coming. You'll enjoy them and I'm sure you'll learn alot, as I did. I guess you could say that there is more than one 'right' way to do some things, but your picture is not one of them, and it IS clear why you would not want that person working on your table. Where is your business on the coast? For what it's worth, I have a set of GC IV black rails that I no longer need, but those probably won't work for you, depending on your table. I've followed your posts concerning the Diamond bar tables, and your GC 3, and think it's great that you are making the effort for top quality equipment. I understand the frustration (I have a Smart Table purchased in Lincoln City in my pool room), and the fact that most of your customers probably don't care, but in the end when it comes to bar tables it really is Diamond, and everybody else, IMO. Props to you for making the effort.

I understand why Simonis wants to keep their information amongst pros. But, if you go to the AZ Billiards main forum, you get hit with a banner ad touting the DVD's.
Advertise to the masses, who supposedly will go to the pro with the inside info and demand the service. Sorta like the sleezebag drug companies do.

in fact what they should do is force companies who buy the cloth wholesale to buy the DVD's ... otherwise they are condoning the improper install of their own cloth.
eventually the dvd's will become public knowledge if they like it or not so they might as well profit while they can ..... really they contradict themselves by having an install manual that is completely inadequate available to the public on the website ....but charge for the proper way to do things ....
