Counter Springs for a GCI???

I just took apart my counters and realized I need 4 counter springs.
Where can I get them cheap? Classic has them for $20 each with $9 shipping.
$90 bucks for springs...gotta be another way.

If you have one of the old springs go on the net for spring companies that make or sell small spring and match it up. There are tons of sping sellers on the net that have small springs for cheap. I'm sure the tension and exact size only has to be close. Johnnyt
 
you can make these from old metal banding that was used on skids for securing material. Bend them as needed.

Excellent suggestion and it works. Just be careful that stuff will have some sharp edges!! :)
 
I made some for my counters out of large binder clips like these:

Making Springs

I made one of these the other day, and I thought I took more pictures. I worked on making the other two (3 of 4 were broken) last night and took some more pictures.

I started with a large binder clip:

Cut out the center with a dremel tool: (trying to get two springs out of one clip)

Flattened it with a couple pairs of pliers:

Drilled mounting holes and cut out shape:

CAREFULLY bend to match the profile of good spring:

This is where I bent it in the wrong place and snapped it off trying to re-shape it. This is a picture of the one I did the other day installed in my counter:

These are the counters for my Anniversary, but they use the same springs in the early Gold Crowns. My friend has a GCI and he has 2 broken springs in his. I'll show him how, but I'm not going to make them for him. I'm starting to think $20 isn't too much...

I have several original GC counter springs. I will sell you four $22 and I will pay the shipping CONT US. I am sure the home made one will work also though. Nice work Markuster great idea and great pics.

Thanks, I finished mine tonight, it was a pain in the ...! Monte, I'd take DJ up on his offer if I were you. If anyone makes their own, you want to slot the mounting holes so that you can adjust them forward or back after bending them close to the original shape.

I think I will take him up on his offer. Although I figured out a way for make them. I'll go screw around in the garage....burn myself, cut myself and THEN order them from Don after my attempt fails! lol
