Counter springs for GCI????

I don't have a clue what you are looking for
I haven't seen one of those springs but almost anything can be found or made. McMaster Carr and MSC carry a world of springs of various types as does Brownells. Brownells will sell you spring stock to make your own coil or flat springs and one of the best investments I ever made was for a coil spring stock assortment from Brownells. I have used the springs dozens of times for things that weren't gun related in the least. Finally, if all else fails call around the machine shops in your area. You may run across someone that has a spring winder and can make anything you want. They will probably do it a lot cheaper than $90 just to make a few bucks piddling around.

After seeing them, finding some laying around might be the best chance. Failing that Brownell's has the flat spring stock and I'd probably take a shot at making some springs before paying $90 for four of those. Of course I'd probably do away with the counters myself because I never use them.

just an idea [what i would do]...
i guess you already tried to overbend them by hand or vise, so...
if it were me with this problem:
i would check what shape was needed for the spring's curvature;
then i would heat one spring with a torch until it was glowing RED color [just for safety not hotter];
then bend it slightly beyond the shape required;
then quench it in water to temper it.
i would "GUESS" it would be "re-newed", maybe not perfectly as i can not guess what temperature would be required, but for a counter, it should be adequate [i think]
no torch - put it in the oven as close to 500 F as available; then bend; then quench.

Good thought if the old springs are just weak. He does need a propane torch or gas burner to heat the springs. They will shape at dull red to red color. Then heat to a straw color, slowly! Quench in oil and you should have a spring. Working from memory here but detailed instructions for making springs are easily found and I have them around here somewhere if he wants to go that route.
