Couple of nice Ortmann matches from Amsterdam

I'm just about finished watching that second video, and wow, that's a pretty run with some extra entertainment provided by the Miz :)

I am not alone in my view that Miz in his prime had the best stroke of anyone in the modern era of pool, the perfect blend of finesse and power. Ortmann is still in his prime, but the chance to see Miz in his prime (towars the end of his better playing days) is a treat indeed for those that never had an opportunity to watch him. Of course, Ortmann ws the stronger of the two at 14.1 by then.

FYI, this was a prep event for the 1993 US Open 14.1 Championship, which, I believe, began later that same week in New York City.

That's one event I was able to attend, sjm, at the Hotel Pennsylvania. And guess who won -- Ortmann over Lee. Unfortunately, it was a year of squabbles between organizations, and most of the top players -- including Mizerak and Sigel -- were not allowed to play in the event.

Yeah, but it was still a very fine event. Were you watching when Tony Robles ran 107 and out on John Ervolino? It was one of Tony's finest moments.

You must be thinking of some other year, sjm. Robles did not play in 1993. Ervolino did play; his four matches were, in order, a victory over Garcia, a loss to Hunter, a victory over Colavita, and a loss to Hasch.

OK, my mistake. Wasn't sure it was 1993, but thought it was. Thanks for the correction. Will ask Tony next time I see him which year that match took place. Sorry to have taken the thread oof track with inaccurate info.

Ortmann plays fast (love it) He is ready to shoot before the balls are racked !

He is one of my favorites although I haven't seen much of him lately. I wonder if he has stopped or reduced his playing time. I know he had back problems at one time.
