Cracked Cue from Phinmole

I'm not hoping for any resolution, and I'm only out $27.50, but I thought I would mention this in case anyone else deals with Phinmole.

I won a Hoppe Pro on ebay from Phinmole, that had cracks running up the butt from the ivory ring all the way to the wrap, on both sides. From the picture he posted on ebay, it looked like a surface finish problem. As soon as I received the cue it was obvious that one of the finish lines was definitely a crack - very visible just looking at it (and my eyes are bad). Since Phinmole types in font 6, I'm sure he could see this as well, but he insists he could not. The buttcap was spinning and the screw was loose, so I took it off to examine further, hoping I could fix it myself and only be out a little; however, the crack ran all the way across the butt of the cue.

Phinmole refunded me the price of the cue, plus $7.50 for his half of the shipping, so I'm out the other $7.50, plus $20 it cost me to ship back to him (he used UPS ground of all things).

What pisses me off is that, after many email exchanges, it's obvious to me that he got screwed when he bought the cue - he mentioned to me that the seller told HIM that it was not a crack. So apparently he complained when he bought it and was quite aware that it was cracked. Yet he doesn't mention that in the ebay description or show pictures that would have made it obvious. He simply hoped he could dump it off for the highest price possible by not mentioning the cracks. Yeah, lots of people do it. That might be why he thought he could get away with it as well. A $27.50 lesson to me not to deal with Phinmole.

I've added a picture.

Sorry to hear about your experience...I've done business with Felix in the past and I wouldn't consider this one transaction to be a blark mark on his record..It's tough buying a cue that has damage when you don't know the true extent of it until you have it in your own hands..thats why I always stay away from cues as such

Better luck in the future,

Rack'em

Why didn't he refund all the shipping and pay for it to be shipped back? It doesn't seem right that you should have to pay to return it. It's bad enough you had to waste your time repacking and returning the cue for no fault of your own.

just got a sneaky off him from ebay and he never left me feedback but otherwise it was allll goood...cue was alittle rougher than i thought but was so cheap i dont care...

Phinmole is a user here. He's a great guy and an honest seller. There's something missing in this story.........I will be eagerly awaiting Felix's response. This sounds nothing like Felix.

I dont know. Ive done a deal and talked with runscott and he is a good guy. A crack is a crack. Thats hard to miss guys. A full refund should have been issued. Not liking the cue is different then this. nothing less should have been accepted

i dont think he has much to say being as his last activity was today at 1:09 am. no way he didnt see this thread esp when there is two of the same threads

I was curious to see the actual auction page with his pictures and description.

Went to ebay and searched all items by phinmole active and completed and did not see the cue.

Can you give us a link?

You got a refund on the cue but not refunded on the shipping. Did it say on the auction page refund minus shipping costs or none of that was said?

If we could see the auction page I think that would help.

There are some who will refund the shipping costs, You have others who will split the cost or not refund the shipping amount at all.

I don't feel there's one set way to do it. Everyone has their own terms when it comes to shipping costs. For example, The ones who charge more than it really costs to ship.

When I sell a cue I offer a return if unsatisfied minus the shipping costs as long as the cue is returned in the same condition as sent.

I guess Phinmole is a no refund on the shipping costs seller. Nothing wrong with that.

It's understandable your angry about the cue not as described and had to pay for shipping. Maybe we should all start asking about that up front.

Don't get angry with me. I'm not for or against you. Just offering my worthless thoughts.

and yes if he knew it was cracked, Which I'm not saying he did or didn't as only he knows that, Then he should of said something.

I've gotten a few things from Felix over the years and never really had any problems with anything.
He's always been true to his word with me, and the few people that I have sent to him for specific kind of cues/cases have always been happy in the past.
If something isn't right, he's alway been pretty quick to make it so, the few times that I know of that haven't gone totally smooth.
I'm sure this will all get resolved satisfactorily, but I hope that he just burns that cue, and doesn't get any more like it.

I've also gotten some great items from Runscott, and know him to be impeccable in my past dealings, and hope to again someday.
I just hate to see great people get caught up in messes like this.
But as stated in an earlier post, at least it was pretty cheap, and from someone that is willing try and work things out.
