Cracked Ivorine Ferrule ?????

It looks like the tip is delaminating. This is probably more due to a tip pik or Ultimate Tip Tool than hitting the floor, though that certainly didn't help. I see scratches in line with what appears to be a gap in the tip layers.
Did you test it to try to pull the tip apart before cutting it off? Could've possibly saved a ferrule replacement, but with that glue gap/line, replacing it was probably a smart move.
Out of curiosity, was the ferrule threaded on or slip-fit?

The tip has only been on there for less than a month, it is a Kamui Brown Soft, which doesn't mean it hasn't delaminated, was just giving a time frame for the life of the tip is all.

I did not test it to try and pull it apart, I took a razor blade and cut it off and it cut off SO easily that it just popped right off, no glue residue left on the ferrule at all, the tip came off so nice and clean that it LOOKS like you could sand the back and re-use it (I only said it LOOKED like it could be re-used, not that I WAS going to re-use it,lol).

The ferrule was a slip on, NO threads

No harm in reusing a good tip,
Actually it is a very good skill to have as a lot of finicky players want to keep tips from one shaft to use on another.....
Or you may have one pop off that will need to be re installed.

I have one guy that plays with house cues to try and find a good elk master to get out on his cues :( hell pop it off and show up with a used elk to install.

Thanks Darcy, He actually did ask me if I could just re-use the tip because it is so newly installed and he loves the tip, plus I gave him the tip for free and he doesn't want to waste the tip. I've never even thought about re-useing a tip, lol. After your comment, I MAY try to re-use it, because he is a very good friend, we shoot together several times a week and he knows if it comes off I'll put another one on for him. He's such a good friend, I do all his work for free, even the tip was free so he won't complain or get pissed if it comes off.

This has been a VERY informative post for me, all you guys have shared some great secrets of the trade with me today. Thank you again for all the great replies.

Sorry

Sorry that this post has taken me so long to get to. I am the guy that owns this stick. Originally when it got knocked over I glanced at it and didnt notice anything except for the huge dent about middle way through the shaft. Once i noticed the markings on the ferrel I assumed (out of my lack of knowledge) that it must have been from the guy knocking the cue over because I try to be very careful with my sticks and was very upset when he did so. Needless to say that I have not been bringing my better sticks to my friends house when he has company. I had forgot that I was shooting one day and guy we were playing with was bragging about how great this instrument (tip pick) worked and offered to tune up the tip. Needless to say my lack of judgement on letting anybody other than Lee touch my stick hurt. Well Lee took the stick for me and what can i say...He did an amazing job on the ferrel and put me a great tip on there. This guy hands down is one of the BEST people I have ever met. He would do anything to help anybody. I wanted to make sure that I posted this as I think alot of him and has always gave me great advice. He introduced me into the custom cues world and I couldnt be happier with the JD's and Coker that I have purchased

Thank all you guys for the great knowledge that you have shared and Lee...Thank you again sir :D

Thanks for the very kind words Brandon. The whole thing was a learning curve for both of us. You know I'll always do anything to help you. ALL these extremely kind and helpful cue builders and repair men have shared a wealth of their knowledge with me, this particular thread was helpful and a great learning thread for me.

However, if you keep beating like you did yesterday, next time I'm gonna sabatog your cue's when I have them in my posession :p, since you won't spot me any balls, I gotta get a leg up on you somehow,LOL. ;)

Whats the technique for replacing a cuetip thats popped off? Alignment has to be perfect eh?

LOL, Yep.... DEAD perfect since it is already trimmed down to the diameter of the ferrule.

Whatever the technique is, I MYSELF do NOT have the technique figured out because I wasn't able to get the old tip lined up good enough to re-use so I had to put a new tip on.

Pretty sure that you had just as many games on me as I had on you!! Its always nice to get some games in with you I like the competition!!
