Crappy Run w/Video

Here's a run from yesterday cut short by a scratch. A few things I have been trying to focus on when practicing now.

1. Minimize CB movement, but pay attention to where the CB is going if I have to let it loose a little.

2. Don't bump balls that have a pocket, but have a back up plan in case I do, ie. insurance ball(s)

3. ESTABLISH a break ball ASAP. I can't tell you how many times a run has ended, because I haven't planned a break ball and I'm already half way through the rack.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think. I honestly feel like I'm knocking on the door of becoming a consistent 2-3 rack player.

Nice run. My suggestion would be to find a way to get a higher angle for the camera. People on this forum are knowledgeable and willing to give advice but it is difficult with such a low angle.

I think and play slightly different to you. Point 3 was spot on, and if you can't identify a break ball straight away then try creating one at the first possible opportunity. That's where point 2 comes in. Bumping balls, especially one you have elected as the break ball is ok. I'll always have my ideal break ball position in the back of my mind and try nudging the break ball as close to that position as I can when working through a rack. Also, don't be afraid to bump balls instead of trying to do extra with the CB, especially on tough shots where the pot is difficult enough. Make sure of the pot first, and play position with what you are comfortable with. On to point 1. Rather than thinking limit CB travel, think in terms of not over doing it. Don't do more than what's necessary, but don't do less either.

nice video.

i am working on similar points.

watching videos of +50 runs it always seems like they make it so easy, and i think it's all shot selection and minimal CB movement. It's always little draws and stun shots just picking off the balls with no heroics.

was playing 9ball ghost last night and kept this in mind...my usual race to 10 i lose 4/10 or 5/10...last night i lost 6/10 twice which may not seem much, but every loss i was right up to the 8 or 9 ball when it went wrong. Each race could easily have been 8/10 losses.

Still works on my desktop, doesn't work on my ipad. Might be an flv file, in which case it's not supported on apple devices because they stopped supporting adobe flash files a while ago.

not an expert, but my thoughts:

1) nice shooting! (tough scratch)
2) you dont look much like Beiber, which is a good thing. :grin-square:
3) do you come from a 9 ball background?
4) how many balls ahead are you planning?

Yes

5 or 6, and then reassessing the situation every 2 or 3 shots.

Wow, if that's what you call a crappy run, then mine definitely aren't worth a sh!t. lol

With the limited playing time I get, my goal is to reach 50 (high run of 36 now) by the end of the year.

So anything under 50 is crappy to me :)

Cool man, hope you break through! I'm way behind and will be happy if I can start consistently running just one rack by year's end.

We all have to start somewhere. Two things that have helped me are

1. Doing the brainwave drill. Where you spread 15 balls, and make them in any order, but the CB can't touch a rail. You can start with less balls and then build your way up.

2. Playing progressive straight pool (5.1, 6.1, 7.1). Basically racking 5 balls, and then 1 ball to the side as your break ball. Open the rack, and then run out while planning everything out. Once you get good at that, add another ball. Rinse and repeat until you can get through a full rack.

Ah....the old "Brainwash" drill, such a great practice drill !!!

Jim Rempe recommends it during his How To Run A Rack video.

It's a lot harder than it looks and sounds once you get into doing it.
