This is one of the crazier hard maple pieces I have seen. The two quarter sawn "faces" show some decent curl. The two flat sawn "faces" show an inclusion type figure. They aren't bark inclusions, just crazy little figures of grain that resemble a cross between bark inclusion and birdseye. On top of all of that, there is a mineral streak running the entire length that shows on both sides of the quarter sawn faces. Mineral streaks aren't exactly what one normally thinks looks good in a cue, but given it runs the entire length and shows up on both sides and given the other figure, I like it and think it will add a lot of character. I thought some of you cue and wood nuts might enjoy seeing this one.
I decided early to core this piece, but it never once moved and turns cleanly, no soft fuzzies. It is (probably obviously) getting cored with the straight grained cocobolo next to it.
The forearm and sleeve will be high grade bubinga that shows both curl and waterfall figure.
