Crazy things you do at 3am

I woke up at 3am and couldnt go back to sleep. So i got on the computer and pulled up BCN on youtube and am watching Cory Duel and Danny Bassavitch play at the Glass City Open 2004. I have me a bottle of Mtn Dew, and am cleaning and waxing my Bluegrass shafts. I am heading to Magoos later today to play a friend that I havnt seen in a few years.

Dont really know why I am telling you guys this, I just thought it was funny. If I could quit my job at the VA and play pool 24/7 i would do it in a heartbeat. I was fired from a 7.15/hr job back in 1993 because I was always taking off to go play pool, or I would come in late from playing pool and nt feel like going to work the next day. The boss really gave me a choice...Either straighten up and show up to work every day, or your fired right now. I was making 250-400 a week usually playing pool....I was working and only bringing home around 250/week....I told him that I guess I was fired. Actually the best thing that could have happened to me.

I played pool for 1 solid year as my soul source of income. I kept track of all of my winnings and losses. I made a KILLING that year. I played alot of hole in the wall, back woods bars around Northeastern Okla, SW Missouri, West Ark, Dallas, Memphis, Kansas.

Man, that was the life....But now with a wife and a 8yr old son, thats not a reality. I wouldnt trade being a father to my son for anything on this earth.

Anyways, enough of this rant...I am gona watch Danny and Cory play while I polish my BG shafts.......

They put a shot clock on the players in the semifinals and finals, and Danny seemed to play better fast than he does slow. I never could understand why he ever did develop that slow play. He's a great player when he's on the shot clock.

If that's the match I'm thinking about, Danny ran a 6-pack on Corey, if memory serves me right. Corey was benched, sitting in the designated chair. He kept looking out into the audience, with a big ol' grin on his face, knowing he was helpless to Danny's strong play. Hey, it happens to the best of 'em, even Corey.

Yep.....thats the match....its 7-1 right now and Corey is looking around like "PLEASE SOMEONE GET ME OUTTA HERE!" He is totally helpless and he knows it...Corey is a great kid!

Here's a cute story about that tournament. I still chuckle thinking about it. :grin:

When I used to go to these tournaments, it didn't matter what time I went to bad -- and it was USUALLY the wee hours of the morning -- I would always wake up at 4 and 5 a.m. out of habit. It really sucks not to get sleep, and my biggest problem with going to tournaments was sleep deprivation.

Anyway, I digressed, getting pool tournament PTSD thinking about it.

So I mosey on downstairs, waited for the restaurant to open up, and I had breakfast. I hung out there for a long as I could, and then I saw them open up the tournament room. The semifinalists were going to a players meeting. Well, I had my trusty camera in tow, even though it was running out of batteries from taking so many pictures, and I went in. Nobody else was awake in the hotel except these guys.

Grapevine, hearsay, if you will, says each semifinalist was offered a big chunk of cheese if they would agree to play with these balls. The only problem was, the cueball was BLACK! :shocked2:

Troy Frank couldn't believe his eyes.

Corey decides to check out the balls, seeing if he could overcome the black cueball.

Meanwhile, Troy is still mesmerized with the black cueball. LOL!

After a brief colloquy among the semifinalsts -- Corey Deuel, Troy Frank, Charlie Bryant, and Danny Basavich -- they decided collectively: "Thanks, but no thanks."

Pat Fleming, in the background wearing green, couldn't contain his laughter.

depends on how big..."that chunk" of money is IMO I'd play with a CB with naked fat hairy guys on it if the $$$ was right!

I can tell you one thing....being 90% disabled from the military, and 70% of that is from PTSD.....it sucks not to be able to sleep normal. I get maybe 2 hrs sleep each day....I did all the PTSD pills that are "supposed" to make you better...just brings back too many bad memories. I guess you learn to live with it. I wouldnt trade anything though for serving in the Army!

My sleep deprivation is taking its toll on my health. According to my doctor, I need to be concerned about my heart. I am doing everything in my power to get healthy right now. I want to outlive my Sammy dog. :grin:

Sorry to hear that Jam...I was at the VA Hosp for a checkup and I have high BP.so I have started watching what I eat, and Trina, gavin and myself go walking every night....well, Gavin rides his bike and we have to get on to him cause he wants to get way ahead of us...I am 270lbs and absolutely in the worst shape I have ever been in in my life....but we are slowly changing that.

With losing our 8yr old daughter July 2007, I have been depressed beyond beliefe...I am working through that now....I hope there is an end to all this

Take care of yourself...eat right....go for nightly walks....it will do you good......I am praying for your health to get better!

Sleep truly is a luxury for me. I cannot tell you the last time I slept 8 hours. It's been decades.
