crooked tournament, cuecollector.com

There are way too many people who view forums like this as an ideal place to drag something or somebody through the mud.

Based on the initial post by tdorn, it's obvious that his intent was to trash the owner's unrelated cue website, slander his name, depict the tournament director as a crook, and to try and harm the reputation of this billiard establishment and all because the TD decided to rank a player a "6" instead of the requested "5".

As is typical with this type of behavior, tdorn's efforts have backfired and in the process he has revealed himself to be a childish, barely literate hot-head.

Just another cry baby pool player that didn't get to steal a tournament and doesn't know how to construct readable sentences with proper punctuation. Maybe you should take some of that negative energy and try to do something constructive with it, like practice!

there is alot of misunderstanding in some of the replies to this entry.i don't really know what happened saturday, but i do know that the tournament director"mike templeton" is crooked.the problem with him is that he brings his friends down and let all of then in ranked way low.leon came down as an 8, which is what most of the good local players are and leon has spotted several of them the 8 and drilled them.and its was not that he was an unknown it was cause mike knew he had better odds.also his friend smitty came down and got in as a 5 but is really a 7 or 8 and then there is mike's cousin rick who came down and got in as a 5 and is really a 7.all of this makes mike crooked.the guy trav brought in really was a 5.the new place is great but if mike keeps running it greg will go under in a few months.i still say mike and trav need to play but i think mike is scared.

You have got to be kidding with this last post....right? You are missing several points....no, actually you're missing the entire picture.

This is not a one-time tournament and rankings aren't set in stone. The whole point of the system is to adjust rankings based on results. If someone is under-ranked, they will be moved up with their success. If someone is over-ranked, they will move down based on their lack of success. Eventually, everyone will be ranked according to our system and subjectivity will be removed. Get the picture?

You say that Mike under-ranks his buddies. That's simply not true and a totally unfair accusation. This tournament was based on the handicap tournament in Columbia, SC at The Opening Break. In Leon's case and Rick's case, we simply used their Columbia rankings. I don't agree that Smitty is over-ranked. I've played smitty in the tournament (we're 1-1) and he is at most a decent 6. Mike and I did not pick these rankings out of thin air, we discussed the players and their rankings beforehand and decided together how individuals would be ranked.

I don't have any problem with people choosing not to play in our tournaments or not supporting the pool room, but I will not tolerate anyone disrupting these tournaments or calling Mike (who has done one hell of a job) a crook. I've known Mike for almost 15 years and I can tell you he is one hell of a nice guy. He's also a "standup" person and not on this forum posting anonymously like many others.

Sincererly,
Greg Matthews.

He added that after Willie posted. Check the time he edited his post and when Willie posted.

Half the purpose of a message board is about anonymous posting though ;)

Greg has posted here several times before, and used his name in almost if not all of them. All the regulars know who Oceanweb is, and his picture is there as well. That's not anonymous. :o

This is really dumb. I personally despise handicap tourneys, no handicap is going to be fair, why should u be punished for being a better pool player than someone else, to become good you have to lose a LOT like all good players have. But if a handicap tourney gets the most amount of players, more power to the bar. This is really simple, if you know that the td is "crooked" then why on earth would u play in said tourney in the first place? If you are gonna make a big deal out of one stupid number then you shouldn't play at all, and if you can't argue you're points in an adult manner then you shouldn't argue at all.
Splitting up into two tournies sounds like a good idea, i would favor that i hate playing weaker players heads up let alone spotting them games. As much as i despise handicap tournies i would welcome them, any tourney is better than no tourney at all.

I'm not sure what he's talking about.
If he's talking about cutting up the money, I know a lot of TD's buy calcutta's. Myself included. You just have to not let that determine how you run or rule the tournament. I have disqualified people I bought in the calcutta before.

Cutting up your own tournament: Cheating your own tournament in a way that you can make money for yourself. I.E.- taking an unknown AAA player (who you know, of course) and rating him as a C, and sharing the winnings with him.

I used to play regularly in handicap comps. These two players should pull their head in. The tournament organiser has EVERY right to set the handicap for an unknown player high until they see them play, regardless of what the general consensus about their playing speed is. End of discussion. If it takes a few comps to sort out what the true and fair handicap is, then so be it.

At the comps I played in, they would not let you play in the money rounds until you had turned up and played four separate times!

I quit handicap comps because I don't believe that it does your game any favours, but I think it is a great way for beginners to 'test the waters'.

For the record, I also think it is completely gutless to post an attack on a guy on an internet forum, similar to calling him a crook in his place of business in front of potential/paying customers. Grow up kids.

Hi Blud,

I finished high school in the early sixties. My cumulative average in English was BARELY a passing grade. Each time I post, it takes nearly forever to finally hit that submit button. Its what you SAY that is important. The Army taught me to type. Radar O'Rielly was my hero! Seriously, I never judge people by the grammer in their posts. People in glass houses ...... Thanks for your input Blud. Keep them posts coming!!! Don't change a thing. See you at VF.

crooked tournament

I am just wanting to put my 2 cents worth in on the issue, Very interesting post. I know Trav and Mike a little bit. I never have seen Greg until this room opened up. I get along great with Templeton and Trav. I think both of these guys are honest in the business.
I read somewhere on here were Trav was trying to slander the owners name or depict Mike as a crook. He was simply telling everyone what happened to him at the tournament Saturday which there are lots to verify that. He sure kept his cool better than I would have when the owner was yelling at him. I was also present when the bartender was fired and this was a joke too. This Greg guy seems to have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, not to mention a nasty attitude. The pool room has very nice tables and player friendly atmosphere which is great. Someone may need to get this gentleman an idiot's guide to dealing with human beings! After tonight I will be a lost customer but I wouldn't miss this tournament tonight for the world! Gotta go hear the gossip.

Sincerly,

king of the hil

:) sighs,
as royal fool and king of the hil ride to the tournament!
