Here are the tournament results for the last 2 weeks at Crown Billiards in Pompton Lakes, NJ. Practice at 6PM, tournament starts at 8:30 PM, Thursdays. Come and join us. Chicago prior and after tourney. Little card tournaments, no loud music and good food. See you there!

BAH! Handicapped tournaments! YUCK! How in the heck are the lower skilled players expected to improve if they get spotted EVEN IN TOURNAMENTS?

Fair tourney

The way the spots are in this tourney, the past 4 weeks there is an even distribution of winners. We had B,s , C,s and A,s come in the money every week. Believe me when I tell you, you really have to bring your top game to win no matter what your spot.
I have played in open tournaments. I did it for the fun and experience. Beat some open players, but mostly lose. The fun wears off after a while and you are just contributing to the pro and open players.
 
Small pool rooms must have handicapped tournaments in order to keep the tournaments alive. Everywhere I have been where open tournaments were played, the same people win over and over again. Its gets disheartening for weak players who cannot win. Some people dont get drastically better unfortunately but they still love the game. Its a good challenge for better players to give up weight in tournament format and it is good for the weaker players to get experience and confidence. I started out playing in a weekly handicapped tournament as a C+ player. The field is fairly strong. I am a B+ kind of player now. If this was an open tournament, I would have hardly ever played at the beginning. I was a 16 year old kid who had no money...I would not have came in and donated to the same two or three guys. Dont knock handicapped tournaments...many buisnesses must do it in order for the tournaments to keep running.
