Cruises with Pros

I saw where there is going to be a cruise in October with Gerda Hofstatter giving lessons. Has anyone gone on a cruise like this and if so, was it worth the time and money or more of a demo?

Thanks for any info.

I went on a cruise a few years back with Journey, Styx and REO. In my opinion it was not worth the extra money for the bands as they were not around as much as billed. I did play pool on the ship a few times and did not notice any rolls from the ship. I would suggest that you go on a cruise ..... and enjoy the cruise for the cruise and take lessons more locally from a reputable teacher.
enjoy,

So far I have only found one with Gerda on it. It is out of San Diego. I love to cruise and am learning pool, so I thought it might be fun.

I have been approached many times, by several cruise lines. All they offered was free room and board, in the crew area, which is not too nice (and it's not free, there's taxes and fees you have to pay, plus you have to get to wherever the cruise leaves from). I told them I make $1000 a day, and I'd be willing to barter. What that meant, was that provided I got a nice, outside stateroom, and first class accomodations for me and my wife, I would do the teaching. I can tell you that there isn't much teaching. Perhaps an hour a day, and it's a group thing...not much in the way of learning more than how to hold the cue, and stand. They declined to negotiate (saying that they don't pay their entertainers), and I've never gone.

must be the wrong entertainment

There is a dance school behind my homeroom and three of the teachers play league at Rack'em and over time two of them were on my APA team. One young man and his girlfriend both in there 20's and they both make about 60 grand each a year for 8 months work. And they just dance a few hours a night without teaching anyone, very cool job for these two.--Leonard

I hear ya, Scott. I looked into it, and quickly decided to pass on the teaching cruises. I only know of one professional instructor who does it, and on his schedule, he clearly states that this is not for "serious" instruction.

Never did figure out who the cruise lines could charge someone to work for a week on their ship. I spent 3 years, 11 months and 4 days (but who counts?) going to sea in the military, and even Uncle Sam paid me to do it.

More power to anyone who wants to do it, but it's not for me.

radiance of the seas cruise ship

I was on this cruise ship once, and the ship was large and definitely rocking and rolling.....however, the pool table they had was on a gyroscope type mount, so the table and balls stayed reasonably stable......still not like a table on dry land tho'........
