Each year there is an invitational 3-C tournament in Monte Carlo, put on by a Dutch billionaire. Eight of the top players are invited to play, and they each play one match per day for a week in a round-robin. The total prize fund is about $90k with a bonus of about $1200 for each run of 10. Admission is free.

It is in progress right now and ends on the 31st. I found the following results on a site in the Netherlands. This is after the fouth round results. The matches are to 50 points. The two numbers before the averages are matches played and the matchpoints scored (win=2, tie=1). Danny Sanchez is undefeated at 4-0.

Stand na vier ronden:
1. Sanchez (Spa) ------------ 4- 8 (2,040)
2. Blomdahl (Zwe) ---------- 4- 6 (1,820)
3. DICK JASPERS ------------ 4- 5 (1,911)
4. R.Ceulemans (Bel) ------- 4- 4 (1,633)
5. RAIMOND BURGMAN ---- 4- 3 (1,382)
6. FRANS VAN KUYK -------- 4- 2 (1,755)
7. Sayginer (Tur) ------------ 4- 2 (1,647)
8. Caudron (Bel) ------------- 4- 2 (1,474)

If I calculate this correctly, the grand average for the tournament so far is about 1.700. The grand average last year was 1.755, which was a record.

After six rounds (of seven) the standings are:

1. DICK JASPERS ------------- 6- 9 (1,985)
2. Sanchez (Spa) ------------- 6- 8 (1,756)
3. Blomdahl (Zwe) ----------- 6- 8 (1,694)
4. Sayginer (Tur) ------------- 6- 6 (1,798)
5. Caudron (Bel) -------------- 6- 6 (1,660)
6. RAIMOND BURGMAN ----- 6- 5 (1,529)
7. R.Ceulemans (Bel) -------- 6- 4 (1,512)
8. FRANS VAN KUYK --------- 6- 2 (1,702)

How about poor Van Kuyk -- averaging 1.702 and in last place with
a 1-5 record. Looks like any of the three leaders could win it.

Ahh yes, poor Frans and his 1,7+ avg!!

Quite the elite field, I'd imagine it is quite the honor to be invited. That lucky guy!!

I found the details on www.kozoom.com. Here is the link that works right now. All of the individual match scores are there.

The final day saw two matches of 50 in 17 innings (2.941 average) -- Blomdahl over Caudron and Sayginer over Ceulemans. Sayginer was in last place after the first three days, and had a 2.325 average for his last 4 matches to get back to 3rd place. Averages and high runs are available at:
