CSI dumps Diamond for Predator tables

Why? You are assuming they are going after Coin-Op sales. Think of it this way. Currently they have $0 table sales and are spending say 3M on year on advertising/tournament promotions. Lets say they net out 1K in profits from each table and and additional $500 in brand awareness & accessory sales. It's all incremental to their business.

It's like a Gas station that sells cigarettes and lottery tickets. By themselves you couldn't make a business out of it but as a tack on it makes sense AND SELLS MORE GAS. This is kind of the same thing but different. Amazon doesn't mimic Walmart. Tesla doesn't mimic GM. Predator doesn't have to follow Diamond. This is not a debate about whether Diamond tables are better than SAM/Pred.

I have played on KimSteel tables and I find them to play short and are a little gaffy (and loud). Actually a lot like a Rasson. I think the Steel frame acts like a megaphone. Give me a well setup GC1/2 and I'm happy. The Diamonds are great and what I currently play on but they are not perfect. A product can always be made better but will the market bare the cost.
This is the first I've heard of any complaints about the Rasson playing weird. Can you expand on that?

Our industry needs new companies to INVEST in pool growing into a real sport.

I agree, but building shit tables isn’t the investment we need.

Factory support and trained mechanics who can properly install tables is what’s needed.

A company selling shit tables while they costing our sport $ isn’t doing pool any favors.

Have you played on one or put one together? I am staying positive that a reputable company is investing in pool! SAM has been making tables for quite a while, its not like they are a start up.... Surprising you are bashing them.

I wasn’t bashing them.

I was speaking in general terms-not about anyone specific.

Any table manufacture needs a support system in place behind the product they sell.

Maybe my post wasn’t clear or out of context-not knocking anyone

Haven’t seen anyone else comment on the following aspect.

In that CSI/Predator interview video, Karim mentioned that they haven’t even considered a return/coin-op version yet, he basically brushed it off and said they’ll work on that later. I was a bit taken back by that… seems awfully hard to just “bolt on” a high quality return/coin-op system. Both Valley/Dynamo & Diamonds barboxes are designed entirely around their internal return systems…

The Predator 7’ project seems like quite a head scratcher to me, but certainly wish them well, and hopefully their small table “R&D” investment with SAM produces some real sustainable fruit. When viewed as marketing budget $$ to support their long term CSI collaboration for the USA league scene & general long term Predator brand promotion - it makes more sense.

Too bad the new Brunswick barbox project is DOA…

Here In NorCal and from what I’ve seen of west coast bar scene, it seems hard enough to convince a typical bar/poolhall owner to even invest in Diamonds over Valley’s, even with Diamond’s well known financing model. Hard to imagine a new entrant of any kind making a dent in that market, especially with zero distribution/support network… How big is the US barbox market anyway?
I thought he mentioned that the 9 foot is a drop pocket and the 7 will be a ball return

Where did you get that info? They sold out every order that they produced with Global. Makes no sense to keep payin to have their bases made by another company. I am betting with escalade ownership they are going to keep investing!

TFT
I have no info. I was simply gleaning that from comments around here, the fact that their new barbox product page no longer exists, and no one seems to have seen them in the wild except at Archer’s place in GA.

A mini GC6 coinop barbox sounds great. If BW is still investing and working on it, cool. As far as I know you are the only one around here with any BW insider connections, so keep us posted I guess. Doesn’t cost anything to be optimistic!

I just skim watched the video, but I thought Molina Mike asked him directly about the drop pocket design & lack of coinop mechanism on the current/new 7 footers and Karim’s response was that they are focused on drop pocket model delivery for the large upcoming CSI events and would get to the return models later. I may have that wrong.

To be fair, the Predator/CSI PR on the new “Apex Premier” table does mention a “ball return system designed to be quiet and keep the balls clean”, so presumably it is designed for it, but the feature is not prioritized yet.

I imagine their new 7 foot it just a rebadged version of the 7 foot SAM already makes with maybe some cosmetic changes.

I dont think this is a big deal for pool halls, most rooms I have played in that are not bars have tables with out coin mechanisms and still have the returns. In fact, the Diamond ones with out coin stuff are GREAT, the balls come back so fast!! I spend little to no time in bars, coin ops have no place in my life. Brunswick offered just the return on their last offering. I suspect the GC Coin op will be back with a base that they make and not another companies. You are 100% correct, it cost me nothing to be optimistic about them coming back into the tournament game. While we are on that topic: they abandoned commercial pool, I hate that part. Hence, my excitement for Predator jumping into the table market: THEIR ENTIRE MOTIVE IS TO SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL POOL!!

There is no "Brunswick" involved in the sport of pool anymore, thats done and over!

I wonder if the new tables will come with the cloth velcroed on. :p

I find them to bank short (once cloth is broken in). Also many balls down the rail from shallow angles seem to get spit out that in my opinion should go in. Some people like them. Me not so much.

I remember when Cyclop balls first hit the market. People ran to them with promises of high density resins and quality control. In the end they exited the market. Goofy cue balls lopsided numbered balls that didn't hold up. Rasson has come in and splashed some marketing money (in Snooker as well). It doesn't mean they are well built or play well. To me it's like the celebrities who told everyone to go buy Crypto during the Super Bowl. Fortune favors the brave my bum.

If CSI, or BCAPL gave a crap they would have polled Player for input. But like most people in the PO lol community they are self centered, only care about their product, do not even have friendly comparators, live by kill or be killed moto, and bottom line is they are for sale like Politicians in D.C., for sale to highest bidder.

Brunswick still offers a 9' GC 6. Does that not qualify as a commercial table?

Brunswick Billiards is now a subsidiary of Escalade which is a sports company with billiard brands including Lucasi, Players, American Heritage (tables), Cue & Case, Mizerak cues and tables, etc.

Have you ever played on one a GC6? Do you see them being used in new pool rooms or for tournaments?

My point is: they do not host or sponsor tournaments, nor, do they participate in supporting Professional Pool Players. They barely have a presence in commercial pool.

It is very, very common knowledge that Escalade owns Brunswick now. I hope and pray they invest in the future of commercial pool.

Lucasi and Players along with Dufferin were/are all owned by Cue and Case before being bought by EscaladeSports. What they do with B'wick is anyone's guess.

IMO, it is a TON better than KPS Financial. Escalade is obviously in the Billiard Industry and the purchase of Brunswick could really change the things in a positive way. I am super curious about the GC Coin op. T
