CTE ... the complete story

I voted a resounding YES !!! (on the sticky vote above)..because...

I also believe, some sort of "sanity" test, should be required before you are allowed to start an "aiming thread". Unless, of course you just fiendishly enjoy, 500 post flaming threads)...(are you listening JB ???? :D)

Do you ever have any advice for people? I admit that I don't follow you around to see what you post but I'd really like to know if you ever have anything positive to say about pool?

I mean I know that you were a good short stop and I imagine you can still play pretty sporty.

I enjoy your road stories and thank you immensely for that.

What I don't understand is why it bugs you so much that some of us like to discuss pool theory. We get a kick out of discussing things and trying things like aiming systems. Why does that bother you?

It doesn't bother me that you spent a good portion of your life hustling and trying to rob people on the pool table. It doesn't bother me in the least that you hung out with murderers and drug dealers who financed your pool playing. I think that your life is very interesting and am glad you are around.

What does bother me though is the way you talk down to people who you think aren't on your level when it comes to pool playing. Us people who never had the luxury of running around the country playing pool for a living are what supports the game and keeps it alive. Not you. You are the romantic side of the game that all of us "squares" wish we could be.

So it's really shitty for you to come on here and talk down to us for just enjoying the game enough to spend time talking about all it's facets. At least this is how I see it.

I spent a cross country trip talking to David Matlock about pool. He never once derided me for wanting to explore different systems. He knows more systems than just about any player I have ever met.

You talk about being such a great player and never needing any systems - David uses systems. Want to play him some?

I will be happy to bet as much as I can on David if you want to get yourself into an "old gunslingers" TAR match. I am just saying - since you want to deride people who use systems how about you spend some time telling David Matlock what a sucker he is for using them while you two are playing a race to 100 for $10,000?

Neil is right - you say you are tired of aiming systems threads and you bring one back from last year?????

Anyway, let's get that TAR match going - David's got a backer. Do you?

Holy Crap...what a gambler !!!!

Wow ! Boy John, you really put me in my place. Nice "challenge" too...You could have picked SVB, Frost, or some guy who was not even born when I was last in stroke.

No thank you John,... David is at least 20 years my junior, and I'm sure he would be able to give me the 6 out, at least. Thanks for the offer though, and very bold of you, to offer to stake him. Your gambling sense, FAR exceeds your ability to learn how to master the game of pool.

My game was never 9 ball anyway. (as you well know) However, I would make an exception, and play "YOU" a High $$$$ Challenge match, at any game you can name on a pool table..
Better get me quick though, The eyes are going, and my walker gets in the way of a lot of shots. I should still be able to do a race to 100 though. (at 10 games a day) :)

I will even allow you to use ALL the "foolproof" CTE, BHE CID, etc., you want to,...How can you miss ? Methinks you will always be an "APA 3",... forever searching in vain, for a way to make the balls go in the hole.

Cranky old SJD <---has a lot of positive things to say about pool---just NOT about anything I've ever heard you expound upon.. ;)

PS..If you went cross country with David, I would bet the poor guy didn't get in three words edgewise, the whole trip...:D

Sorry I didn't realize that you were that old. I thought for some reason you were right around David's generation.

Well then I guess you won't be playing anyone I know then. Grady might be about your age I guess. I'd bet on him if you two were to hook up.

As for me I will gladly play you some high stakes one pocket.

Since you have correctly pegged me as an APA 3, (actually a 2 but the APA is a bit sexist and won't let men be 2s) let's get a game set up.

What do you think is a fair game between an old champion like yourself and a super weak player like myself?

I can tell you that players with far less credentials than you have given me large spots and beaten me easily.

I will play you some $1000 a game one pocket with a five game minimum if the spot is right.

Me, APA 3 vs. San Jose Dick Moran - Legendary Road Player and High Stakes Gambler.

So lets get the game right and I will be on the next plane to Phoenix.

I promise to use CTE deliberately and obviously. I will make a point of going through all the steps on every shot.

Your move old hustler.

Sorry John...even Grady is not eligible. (too young) I now GET weight from almost everyone. Scott Frost recently gave me 10 to 4, and it was no contest. I thought I could still play a little, but alas I cannot...We could play even, and I would take my lumps...The $$$ amount is fine.

Just an aside...My good friend John Henderson is playing Grady a challenge match, here in Phoenix next mon. (June 7th) ...4 ahead for 3K. each. It will be streamed live by Fast Lenny...John is 71 (a few yrs. older than Grady) and was never the level player Grady was. Perhaps some sort of wager could be worked out on that game. John is the underdog, but I am a sympathy bettor...heres the link. PM me if you want to do anything, $$$ wise.

PS..John, when you click on the screen,..be patient through a few commercials, you will get to watch the Frost/Joyner match played last week in Mobile...Lenny has it archived right now.

Sorry then, I'd need 15:2 from Frost. I think you have probably forgotten more about one pocket than I will ever know. I don't see John as the underdog in this matchup and I am not to interested in betting on this match.

As an APA 3 I am contractually obligated never to play any one who was once a road player without a ridiculous amount of weight no matter what their age.

You sound like you must have played with the class of 1885 or something if even Grady is too young to be your peer.

Well you are entitled to your opinons on CTE. Tonight I beat one of the better players in Xiamen thanks to CTE.

All he did was clap at some of the shots I pulled off. This guy normally beats me 9-4 in races to 9. Tonight I finally beat him.

I might even get bumped up to an APA 4 now. :-)

Too bad our paths won't ever cross but I might be in Las Vegas for the BCA show if you want to take one of those senior citizen bus tours and come find me and you bring along a decent spot we could tango.

Otherwise just keep on being negative if that's what you want to do. Makes no real difference to me.

Hi Patrick good to see you on the forums again

Unfortunately, that post you quoted was from last year. If you click on the little swirlie arrow next to Patrick Johnson's screen-name in the quoted text of your post, you'll see it will take you back to the original post, which was posted on:

Patrick's still banned.

Just FYI,

Where is the post explaining CTE???
CTE is explained here:

It is difficult to find a "post explaining CTE" on any of the online forums, because CTE is rarely described. It has been "debated" a lot with many thousands of posts over many years, and the debates usually involve lots of personal attacks and hurt feelings, but the "system" is never really described adequately. In the link, I've done my best to summarize everything I've seen in CTE threads, web resources, and videos that have been shared over the years.

Regards,
Dave
