I am considering the purchase of a new pool cue case and quite frankly can not decide upon what cue case configuration to purchase.

I can only afford one, and I am going back and forth between a 2 x 4, or 3 x 6.

So I thought I would ask those owners who have a 2 x 4, or 3 x 6 why you like what you chose, or dislike what you chose, and wished you chose the other configuration.

I use a 4 X 8. Lots of extra room inside it, plus 3 pockets on the outside.

I have been using 3X6 cases for a number of years and I can't see me going to a smaller case any time soon.
It gives me room for two players, with two shafts each, and my jump/break, with only one shaft. That still leaves me room for another shaft, if the need arises.

It may be what you become accustomed to using. Very seldom have I felt the need to have 3 butts and 6 shafts with me. I'm good to go with my 1 selected players cue and a J/B. Count me as a 2 X 4 guy with roomy/accessable pockets.:)

I would look into a 2x3, it'll do the trick and be a bit lighter...even a 2x4 Instroke weighs a ton.

I can't beleive how many people are pushing the bigger cases--I'm telling you right now, if you actually carry your case with you, you'll be sick of carrying around far more than you'll EVER need. Plus, you don't want to carry all of your cues with you at once, anyway...

You didn't say how much you were going to spend. I have a 3 x 5 like the one I will give you a link too. It is the most convenient case I have ever had as far as carrying, using while playing, ample space, jump butt pocket too,
handles are the best, shoulder strap is padded.

What I am suggesting that maybe you want to try something like a 3 x 5 in one not real expensive just to see if it works for you before you decide on a more expensive one. You could always sell it afterwards.

I also keep a soft case that can hold 2 cues, and has pockets like a hard case incase I want to go 'light' which I don't anymore.

I just bought one of this brand of case for my brother, a 2 x 4, another model though, and he likes it real well.

I like the spring loaded butts, and having butts on a side and shafts on the other side.

Started with a Porper 1X1, then a 2X2...then wanted a case that would carry more shafts, so thought I wanted a 2X4...but then I bought another cue, but still wanted to carry my other cue as a backup. So, since I had the $, I went whole hog...love my Justis 3X6. I do have space for another shaft, have been reading the OB-1 posts/threads intently.

But then, I should find a way to play/practice more, while worrying less about equipment.

The way I've been going, I'll soon need a golf cart to carry all the sticks and the gadgets.

My criteria for a case was adequate protection and lots of pocket space. I bought a Silver Fox BR2. It is a semi-hard case. That is, it has stiffeners on the sides and soft sleeves on the inside to hold 4x8.

I took the inside sleeves out and I lay tubes from hard cases inside it. This gives me room to carry as many as 3 butts and 6 shafts and is till light weight.

The outside has huge pockets! The biggest I've found.

I've got a nice 2 x4 Jack Justis case (the old heavy type) and like it quite well but he convinced me not to put an additional pocket at the top. The additional weight doesn't bother me. I am a pack rat and could have used the additional pocket.
JoeyA Never owned a 3 x 6.

I prefer a 2x4 in a hard case with a light interior as I walk a lot now. Otherwise I am fine with a full tube case as I go from the car to the poolroom.

IF you are sure that you want to carry more than 2x4 then go for the 3x6. If not then don't burden yourself with the extra weight. I can't tell you how many of my customers have come back a year after buying a 3x6 and purchased a 2x4 jsut because they realized that they harldy ever use the third cue and didn't want the weight.

My current case that I use is a 2x4 made of canvas and leather that has a hard shell and a cloth interior, very light and easy to carry when walking.
