Cue Components has the goods !!

Let me take this opportunity to share with the AZ community my most recent experience with one of my occassional suppliers: Joe Barringer at Cue Components. While I have visited his web site and seen numerous items up on Ebay offered by Cue Components, particularly shaftwood as well as other very nice items, I like to see the wood in my hands before making purchases. So, as good fortune would have it, I had an opportunity to visit Joe Barringer’s operation recently while in Florida. And what an operation he has going on.Well folks he definitely has the goods!! I had the opportunity to hand select shaftwood from thousands of blanks– yes, I paid a bit of a premium for the privilege, but it was well worth my time and $$ to come away with some of the best shaft wood and exotic wood I have had in quite sometime. It is not often that there is a supplier who not only has the wood but will allow you to select exactly what you want. Yea, I have paid less for wood and gotten some really nice pieces mixed in – but I had to take the bad with the good . . . Cue Components let me take exactly what I wanted . . . what a great experience! As a result I would not hesitate to purchase again over the internet, by phone or on Ebay. Keep up the good work Joe, I look forward to getting more great wood from you. And Joe was even gracious enough to put me on his Cue Components web site with a link to my own site. Now, that's good business! Here's a link to see what I mean. And Joe is also a bit of a comedian as well. Great guy to do business with.

I have purchased a number of items from Cue Components and would agree with Paul. The new liquid polishing system they sell, forgot the name, is great, for what it is intended, and the rest of their cue finishing products are right on.

reminds me of Home Depot

Sometimes when I go to Home Depot they have just set a new bundle of lumber in place. Easy to cull a few bad boards and most are fine. After a bundle has been culled through a few times it is hard to find decent boards however. Of course then there are the folks that don't know or care what they are grabbing and grab up the culls to send out.

I don't want to deal with someone that allows hand selection unless I can go there and hand select for myself. I have been the victim of deliveries from the cull pile a few times in the past when dealing with other suppliers. Indeed after enough folks have hand selected, everything left is the cull pile.

I am a nobody, so I got a few culls. No harm in sending culls to a newbie nobody who doesn't know any better... Four "exceptional" shaft blanks, zero run off 12-18 rings per inch for 50+ of my dollars. In 3, the grain line at the spine ran out never to be seen again in about 10-15 inches, the 4th one was nice straight grain, but it was split at one end, all four 8-10 rings per inch. Not really a big deal just a cheap lesson I guess.

I am glad you had a good experience. I would have liked for Joe to be a good source, and I wish him and his customers well, but I have a memory like an elephant.

I won the 5 exceptional shafts and they looked pretty good....tight grain and no run off.....for $34.60...as far as exotic woods go there are alot of places to shop besides them....

Me, a friend and another person here locally have nothing
but bad experience from them.

All one needs to do is look back at what has been posted in the last three years about this guy.
JoeyInCali ... all I can say is good luck and without hand selecting everything you buy it is only a matter of time before you get bit by the snake.
Then you will be back here singing a different tune.

Willee, I may be mistaken but I believe you misinterpeted Joey's responce. I don't think he is a big fan of Cue Components.

I know that.
:D

i have heard from numerous people that these guys like to take your money and send no product i guess if you do that enough times you can afford to let one or two cuemakers come out and hand select wood.this is actually the first good report i have heard on these guys.

That's all fine and good Paul if you have the time and money to go to Florida and hand pick the wood, but I have gotten their so called snow white shafts before with bad results. I've gotten a lot better wood from Schmelke. You get some good and some bad when you paid for all good. I can't say a lot more for Atlas when it comes to shaft wood. Butterflycues

Just look at their comments on who they won't deliver to...must be someone from those places pissed them off....LOLz....I wasn't too sure I wanted to bid on any of their items...but I thought I'd give the shaft wood a try to see what their "exceptional" shaft wood is like...I probably won't deal with them anymore as they give me the impression that they think it's an honor to do business with them....

Obviously, pfd (being a respected name in the cuemaking community) will get top notch service and the red carpet treatment.

Not so true for the small guys here.

Not surprised by this a bit.

Joe and I are competitors, but he has always treated me good. He just sent me some lathe parts he had left over while cleaning shop and told me to just make a donation to my favorite charity for what ever they are worth to me. Joe went through a time of some serious health issues and may have left some ends untied during that time, which may account for problems some have had. But it appears he is trying to go the extra mile now at times to repair that reputation. I suggest those who have had problems take a wait and see approach as to how things go now that he has a more organized shop and hopefully all we hear from now on will be good customer service threads. No sense in bringing up old news. So I suggest only posting current news about suppliers instead of old news that is years old unless it is good.

I don't have a problem with the suggestion of posting only current news (last week? a month old? 1 year is no longer current?), but limiting old news to only good reports (no matter what seller or supplier) does not seem right to me. Just my opinion.
