Cue extensions

I'm interested in buying a cue extension and would like help in finding one that's good and works well. No billiard stores around here stock them so the only place I could get one is online. I've read some reviews and alot of them seem to be made of cheap plastic and don't seem to fit well. Can anyone recommend a particular brand and model that they use and like.

Thanks

Cue reach is the cheapest, and the best(for me). No problems with fit or grip.

Member Deacon had a few Hager Extensions left in his inventory, they the Hager are no longer made, but work well.

Johnny Archer turned me onto the Hagar extension, best one EVER!!!! he still uses his, and has a few spares, they cue still feels (almost )the same when you use it, cant be improved on-dont scratch your finish either.

shop around for a used one, they are outthere.

Tony Ryon is a very good one .. i have have a lot in my time and some how people wanta to buy them ....

Looks like the boys have got you pointed right.

And I agree, 100%.

Either the Tony Ryan or the Hager are the way to go.

I have one of each and, for me, I give the Tony Ryan a slight edge because this ext tapers down to a thin handle to feel just like your cue butt whereas the Hager is a continuous fatter tube configuration. Both do work great.

The Hager will NEVER hurt your cue's finish with it's innovative webbing inside. I have heard some complain that the TR extension's inside material came loose or even fell out but I have not experienced anything like that with mine.

What is the inside material on the TR, and does/can it hinder the finish on your cue?

Tony Ryan 12"

Get the Tony Ryan 12" (not the 18") and order the optional vinyl case that you can strap to ther side of your cue......I have mine on a 3x7 Instroke hard leather case.......looks just a rifle scabbard.....extender is handy at any time.......it's made of wood that feels so much better than the plastic extender and feels very natural when gripping the extender.....and it looks nice and it's easy to put on and take off.........the inside is completely foam lined so it doesn't mark the finish on your cue butt/sleeve...........Tony Ryan 12" Oak Color Extender.......That's the one to get.

but how can you say the "Tony Ryan 12" Oak Color Extender....That's the one to get."?

what if black goes better with his gear?

and what if he wants the next longer one to be prepared if he wants to power stroke a shot using the extender and the bridge with whitey almost at the other end of the table and needing to be shot that direction?

there is some degree of subjectivity.

Guys,

Having Brandon Jacoby install an internal threaded extension on my Schon
Cue. Normally use it as a "break" cue. The weight change (if any) will not affect the cue's playability. Didn't like any of the external extension devices I saw. Not saying they are bad. Just didn't like the concepts or execution. Doubt if I'll use it even once a match let alone every rack. Handy device to have though.

I'll post a photo when the cue comes back.

I have heard some complain that the TR extension's inside material came loose or even fell out but I have not experienced anything like that with mine.

This happened to mine when I was using it with a cue with fairly sharp edged buttcap (it's how the cuemaker cut his). It had trouble mating with that soft, spongy material inside and basically ripped it out.

Personally, I like screwed on extension the best but if the cue is not built with that it requires some customization which I was willing to do on some cues which have distinctive identification features in the butt caps (e.g. South Wests or Blue Grass cues).

I did pull the trigger on the Tony Ryan,,,,,,,not impressed at all. It looks like one of those unfinished production table leg spindles you get at Lowes or Home Depot. It has a plastic cap on the end with 2 brass screws that go all the way thru the wall,,,,,,so there is a "possibility" of that screw scratching the cue if it doesn't go in straight. Initial impression when I opened the package was, No way I'm sticking this thing on my Nitti, so I attempted to push it on an old Meucci butt, and sure enough, it ripped the foam badly on the first installation. The finish I understand, for the price, but the design itself is very poor, along with the quality of the materials. I personally couldn't recommend the Tony Ryan,,,,,,,,,anybody have a Hager for sale?

If you have a good cue repair/maker they can probably make you a custom extension for your cue. They can put a sleeve in the butt end then match a pin to it for the extension. Most of these extensions are in the 8" to 10" range. You can get them to match your cue. Mine matches my Predator perfectly and the sleeve he put in the butt is actually lighter than the rubber butt cap that was there. He got lucky and could actually use the threads for the butt cap to put a super light insert in the butt. If I want to take it back to factory, I just screw out the insert and screw the rubber back in. If you get one done you will be very glad you did. Good Luck!!

Maybe they changed the design, or the manufacture of the product. I had bought mine years ago, and it does not have brass screws in cap.

I have used a Longoni, and a Hagar extension. I will not ever use the Longoni again, IMHO it is too much of a PITA to get it on and off the butt end of the cue, I also am afraid that it will mar the finish. The Hagar is a good extension, but the problem I have with it is that you have to modify it to accommodate cues with different butt diameters. To me that is too much of a pain to do, whenever I decide to switch up playing cues. Last thing I want to do is modify my cue extension.

The Tony Ryan, fits all of my cues perfectly, no fuss-no muss, and I like the feel of the handle as KC alluded too also.
