Cue for tall players

Golf Clubs

Hockey Sticks

Lacrosse Sticks

Cricket Bats

Field Hockey

Sking

All come in different lengths based on the sportsman/woman

And this took 3 mins to find....I am sure there are many many more

Sports evolve...baseballs are not made the same...footballs are different...the pool balls themselves are different...the table size has changed

Its called evolution The average height of a NBA player in 1950 was 6'3" Today its 6'7"

I happen to be 6'4" with 35" arms...you can imagine my wingspan...Using a 58" cue is both incorrect and to be quite honest wrong for me. Why would I hamper my playing to use a 58" cue?

Incidentally I use a 62" John Bender split into 31"

I agree with you on some levels. Being able to adapt is crutial. If it feels good, do it. The equipment itself is not hindering your ability to play. Your preconceived thought process is going to make you a better player. I'm sure efren could wax some of the best pool players in the world with just 23'' of bent wood from a tree, IMO ! Back to the topic, if you think you can, do it. If you don't feel good about what you have to work with now, change it. Move on. Play.

Peace

These threads always make me smile, and I will tell you why:

Guys just over 6' claiming they need longer cues, when as previous poster stated is just bad form to begin with. For example, for a right hander, holding it on the butt end and your right arm IS NOT perpendicular to the floor (yes, I am old school), or holding it on the butt end, and your left bridge hand is 18" in back of the tip. (6-8 inches was the norm when I first started playing, now 8-10" would probably be the norm).

I watched Pool players for 6 months before ever picking up a cue, and also read 3 books on Pool. I watched the best players in town, and I grew up in Dodge City, Ks.. We had several good players in town, but we also had many college guys going to St. Marys of the Plains College from back East too. One of those guys was the center of the basketball team named Jerry Govan. He was 7'1" tall, and a very good Pool player. He played with a 58" cue, had very good form except his hips were above the table, and his back sloped downward to the table, but he did not even hold the butt end on the stick when he shot. It was fairly close to the end, but not the end, so I ask you if a 7'1" player can play Pool with a 58" cue and have the proper form and mechanics, why can't you guys just barely over 6'?

Just as a footnote: Jerry later got into trouble for exposing himself to a young lady, got kicked off the basketball team, and I believe out of college.

You need to consider that us tall guys were not tall from birth; I don't know about you other guys, but when I started playing competitively about 7 years ago I was only 6' tall, and now I'm 6'6". If I had started playing at my height today, it would have been easier to adapt. If you are not near our height, you cannot relate, and shouldn't assume that we can easily adapt.

I would also suggest the Schmelke cue @ 60" inches. If you reely feel you need to go to 62" then the elite is also a cheap way to go.
Try one of these or pick up a cheap cue at the right length.
Once you know the length then you can start to thinking about a custom cue to your exact specs.
Don't go spening $1k on a cue that might be the right length.
FYI, I know Seyberts can get you a 31" shaft. Maybe that helps.

Hi, got some questions for more experienced players. I´m a 6´5 tall player. For me has been very difficult to adapt to the normal length cues, besides I´m not Willie Mosconi, I think my game would improve in a 100% if I could find a longer cue. I mean, in the 90% of the time I´m forced to hold the cue in the end, sometimes with my thumb and index to shot the ball in a "comfortable" way. I have a good stroke, but the balance of the cue is very very uncomfotable when you have to hold it in the end.

The quetions are, there are any other player with the same trouble? Where can I find a 64 or 65 inches long quality cue? Do you think it would improve my game?

Right now i have two McDermott cues 58 and 59 inches I have more control with the 59 one but stills very short.

P.S. the only tall player I´ve ever seen in a pro tournament is dave bollman, is there any other???

I have a very similar problem with standard length cues. I'm just 6'1" but I have a very wide grip and stance. Right now I shoot with a 58 inch Mezz cue and a 7 inch extension that screws into the butt cap. I shoot almost all my shots with the cue extension in. I don't think Mezz makes this cue extension any more. I don't knew if any other production cues that build these cue extensions. Cue tech might. Your best bet is to contact a cue maker and have them custom build you a standard length cue with an extension that screws into the butt cap.

Too Tall

Hi,

I am 6'6" and I have always used a standard cue. I believe it really is in how you stand versus how tall or short you are. Perhaps on the extreme ends of this, yes, but I hold the cue about 2 inches up from the bottom of the wrap and keep the cue level.

I have tried long cues and they feel uncomfortable to say the least...

Adam

Have always wondered why tall guys didn't have long cues. Seems to just make sense. I think they have not always been available. On the flip side I have always envied guys who could easily reach down a nine ft. Doesn't seem quite fair. Better to be tall than short though. My short friend is constantly using a crutch on a bar box!
