my daddy always taught me that pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.
Actually, that saying has more to do with working hard vs being fat and slothful.
It has nothing to do with being patient and using wisdom.

what's your deal?

My point was neither, my point was that sure I could have sent the cue to be IDed and made more money if it came back as a Balabushka, or I could have found out it was not and gotten much less. There was enough people here who thought it was not to inject enough doubt to make it a gamble. For my investment in the cue I could not lose and I did not need to retire on it. I am happy with the offer I took and I hope the new owner is also happy. Maybe he will send it to Mr. Tascarella and have him ID it, maybe he will not. I do know for certain that he will enjoy it much more then I will. Some times in life it's not always about getting every dime you can out of something. It's not always about the $$$$.
I just find it very suspicious that your only posts on here are for a yard sale Balabushka, a $20,000 model at that. The odds of this happening are remote, but the odds that it happens to somebody nobody knows on here are very long indeed. Then you have no clue what the cue is initially but are smart enough to know that Tascarella will decide if it's worth $500 or $20,000 - and you're willing to take probably a few thousand someone is willing to gamble on it.
Sorry, this whole thing stinks to me. Makes no sense. I suppose we might find out more, but put me in the "doosh" category too.
What's my deal?? LOL who asks a person to post a pic of a cue with their name next to it?? You are a doosh, I didn't kidnap your cat I asked for some help IDing a cue, if you had doubts that I had the cue in my pocession then you are a fool and should not have even wasted your time reading the thread or posting to it. I feel bad that you are jealous of that cue and now of my tractor. LOL Go away.
I think your error in thinking is, if it isn't a Balabushka it is worthless. Chances are it is worth what the person is giving you or even more regardless. Now they have the added bonus of maybe having a lottery winner on top of that.My point was neither, my point was that sure I could have sent the cue to be IDed and made more money if it came back as a Balabushka, or I could have found out it was not and gotten much less. you've got it all wrong. I was trying to help keep the cue from smelling of scam.
maybe one day you'll come across a functioning brain at a yard sale.
Maybe we should send Pete the pics and see if he recognizes this one.
It's not always about the $$$$.
If it were not always about money, you would have kept the cue and played APA with it.
I picked up a case at a yard sale this past weekend and tonight during league I was offered about 15X what I paid for it, so I figure it must be a good cue. I can tell it's old, but it still rolls pretty straight, the bottom part is perfect the top (tip side) has a slight wobble. One guy in the pool room thinks it might be a Palma or a Paridice, any help will be appreciated. I was told by the guy who thought it might be those 2 types to come here for help, I am new please be patient.
Thank you in advance.
I will try to attach pictures.
Old saying
"If they say it is not about the money, it is about the money". Taking this whole story at face value if it is true, he went for the bird in the hand.
I posted this last night but deleted it thinking I didn't want pictures of any of my cues on the net. What the heck though so here is what happened. A guy buys what is told to him to be a Balabushka. He comes in the pool room where he plays showing off the cue. This is around 1980, no internet and few people who know shi! about cues. He gets laughed at and made to feel like a sucker.
He puts the cue away but sometime later he wants to sell the cue and I hear about it, I had never heard of or seen the cue when he bought it by the way, this is all new to me. I take a run over there and I like what I see and buy the cue on the spot, pretty cheap I should say. I send the cue off to Gus Szamboti to take a look and see if he agrees with me. He says and this is his exact words on the phone after getting the cue.
"That cue had George's fingerprints all over it".
So I get him to make me a new shaft and I begin playing with the cue till I eventually put it away because of too much unwanted attention. Then with the internet and this forum I hear about Tascarella and his involvement with Balabushka cues who it turns out I actually had met but didn't know him by his full name. So a few years ago I send it off to him to get the paper work in case I want to sell it later.
Now here is a guy who had the cue and sold it because his idiot friends who know nothing were making fun of him for being a sucker. I have to say I didn't steal the cue from him, I offered to help him send the cue to Szamboti if he wanted have it checked out, but he just wanted to sell it. Sounds familiar doesn't it. We just heard the same story
Thats cool as shit thanks for sharing.
.
I think the cue is worth maybe $2500.00 no matter what it is. There was no risk in buying the cue as long as you don't go nuts. The actual gamble was small. It is worth something no matter what.Three times I have bought cues for 300 to 500 that were purchased at estate sales for under 40 bucks. I resold them for 1300 to 2000. A Harvey Martin , early 1900's elaborate Brunswick and a Josswest.
I am curious to know what this cue sold for. It must be more than the 2500 I offered. That person scored big time. Too bad APA 5 wouldn't wait for authentication. He missed out on a big payday.
I was immediately curious about the joint protector. If he bought it that way, I don't think the cue was meant to be sold. That, or there's something else going on here.
