Cue Identification Please-

Hi,

Found this old cue in the basement. It was given to my dad some 20 years ago. Rolls straight and has lots of dings and battle scars. He says it was a custom, but I don't think so~

--Veneers look nice. I think these are flame veneers, right? Orange Yellow Red Black.
--Ring work at A & B. E has ringwork to match veneers.
--It's also got a sticker on the buttcap that's completely worn out.
--Not sure what the threading is.
--The tip is hard as rock and appears to have a pad under it.
--Bumper has a piece of wood on it. Never saw that before.
--I believe it's rosewood.
--Also comes in a rust colored case. No identification markings except handle on the side, strip of leather to hold a tip tapper, and the zipper says "QQQ"
--Dad hasn't moved since he came here from HK. Been living in the NYC area and he used to play all the time. So I'd imagine his friend also got the cue from the NYC area? This is pure speculation though haha.

I took some pictures to see if anyone can help me ID this cue. Thanks!

Looks like a nicely done fullsplice. The handle wood has graining characteristic of mahagony. Never seen a bumper done like that, Maybe done by a local cue repair guy experimenting in cuemaking.

Maybe it is an old Helmstetter?

When I saw the first picture it looked familiar.
I can't think of why or from where though.

Oh I was wondering if it was a full splice but my eyes are not experience enough
Would this be a custom then? Dad's lived in the NYC area since he came here from HK. I'd like to know the make. Any info on the case too would be cool. Thanks.

Curious- What are the distinguishing marks that tell you it's a helmstetter??

Im with jayman, that is what is was thinking when i first saw the ringwork and joint.

looks like a 5/16-18 joint pin to me.

The sticker tells me for sure it's not a custom. Even if someone tried to pass it off as such, they'd take the sticker off...

I'd have it refinished and put a wrap on it! I bet it plays great!

EDIT: Loks like it could be walnut as well as mahagony... I'd have to see it live to call it to be (reasonably) sure.

Thanks. I can never tell 5/16 18 or 14. I figured it wasn't a custom from the sticker. It hits pretty nicely.

Haha i wont. I don't mind the wrap cause my hand gets sweaty sometimes but I do love the gloss/satin/natural wood feel.

I am on Long Island during the week, but yes, I'd love to see it live. I can bring some other cues to the party as well, so you can see the different joint pins used on the older cues (mostly 5/16-14).

I'm in West Virginia at the moment, but I will be back there next week.
