Cue identification

Recently acquired this cue and it has no I’d markings anywhere. Thought it might be a Southwest but Laurie Franklin says the rings are not the same size as Southwest cues. If anyone knows what it might be I would greatly appreciate any input on finding out. It has 2 shafts.

What said SW to you? And please tell us that you did not pay "SW money" for it.
A fellow pool player was raffling off a few of his cues and I won it for a $20.00 ticket! He is 87 years old and wanted his cues to go to people he has been playing with in our community! We are a small community in the high desert in
California called Ridgecrest. What said SW was merely the design which we thought looked a lot like SW. He couldn’t remember who made it! He bought it several years ago from a friend of his who is now deceased!

J&J, KC, Karella, and numerous other brands as well as unbranded cues like this were popular 8-10 years ago. Some with points and veneers. Many were pretty decent I think. Inexpensive. The number available helped keep the prices down i think. Many were on ebay. I always thought to grab one but didn't. Now we don't see them so much.

This one looks nice. Nice condition. I like it. Not really likely to be confused with a SW, but has that style. Enjoy it.

I remember those cues and they looked nice with prices under a few hundred bucks. I though Jacoby was one of those brands but now I see them going for thousands. Maybe Jacoby stepped up their game or maybe I’m wrong they were in that category on ebay?

Jacoby has always been well above the import cues. They put out a lot of more affordable cues, but I don't remember a time in the last 20yrs where they were much under 400 to start. Had a friend who had a jcby with ivory ferrule, joint, and butt cap. Rosewood points with veneers into great curly maple.

I think you are mistaken about Jacoby. Maybe you are mixing that up with another name? Jacoby hits sort of the same market as Joss. I have a couple Jacoby cues. I think they are generally very good.

The cues we are talking about are relatively inexpensive Asian made cues. Generally Taiwan made. Not terrible cues though. Basically fancy cues you can get for less than a basic cue from a good US maker. Generally...

It's a little fuzzy but during COVID I was bored and buying all kinds of shit on ebay. The brands name was a male name like Jacoby. Maybe there's another male named cue brand that's cheap?? What ever brand it was there were pages of cues under $200.

J&J had a brand called Kaiser, that around 20 years ago looked a lot like a SW knock offs. They actually played nice for what they've cost.
I had one that I got for a customer that came with two shafts, a breal shaft and a playing shaft.

All of JJ's import stuff is made by KaoKao. Their $80 sneaky is a great cue for the $.

That could be a Tom O'Connor cue. Tom mentored under Burt Schrager in the late 80's, early 90's and then struck out on his own. He mostly sold cues to the bar league players around Los Angeles, in the low to mid hundreds range. Tom moved his shop to Ridgecrest, CA in the 2000's and continued making cues there. He had a knack for finding nice blanks out of exotic woods. During the pandemic he shipped me a couple of dozen cues to sell for him. The bars were all closed and was hurting financially with no customers. I sold all but one, which I kept for myself. Good solid playing cues at very reasonable prices. He might sell a cue like the one shown here for four to five hundred.

Tom continues to make and sell cues in the Northwest, with his shop located near Coeur D'Alene, ID. He relocated there about ten years ago.

Kaiser was a great cue for the money. Solid hit, nice pin. I bet most people would not be a able to tell the hit difference between them and a SW if blindfolded. Same thing for the Mohawk cues. I bought a Mohawk from someone for a bit under $100, sold it for $200 to someone that really wanted it.
