Hi,

Lets have a poll and get demographics that will define all of our feelings concerning us approaching AZ Billiard Management about setting up a Cue Maker's Showcase Gallery so that CMs can display there fine cues and also post progress pics of their work being done in their shops without getting in the way of the fancy cue posters.

Once we get the polling information gathered, I will submit same to AZ Billiards Management for their consideration.

History and Background Info:

Last January when the Cue Makers were banned from selling their cues on "Wanted For Sale" due to legal issues that AZ had to consider, I posted an open letter to Mr. Wilson asking him to create a category right next to Ask The Cue maker called "Cue Maker's Showcase Gallery" so cue makers could display their work without pricing. I was told that we should post in the gallery.

Here is my open letter that was posted in January:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=260157

At that time I felt that we might be seen and an annoyance to the regulars who hang in "Cue and Case" and low and behold there is a sentiment that the cue and case culture is not the same any more. To me that is a sad thing because many of us cue makers are also cue junkies who love to see all of these very cool cues.

Before bothering AZ Management with this problem, it seems right to take a poll to get numbers so that when they do confront this issue they have an idea that some people may not be participating as much any more because things are not the same.

If there is a new category made, I am sure we will see the same faces in both galleries but the Cue and Case people as well as the CMs will have a exclusivity within their own domain.

Please note that I have set up the poll to be secret and you can post more that one check box if you wish. The poll will end in 30 days.

Please weigh in so that we can have substantial polling numbers.

Thanks for any participation in the polling.

Thanks for posting Dan & Pauly and giving your opinions. Hope you voted your sentiments.

As a cue maker myself, I think it would be great to have a Gallery for posting finished new cues and cues in progress so anyone who wants to, would be attracted to that area for that reason, (no pricing involved). I myself would still go to cue and case everyday to check it out because I love the big cues and vintage eye candy. The culture of Cue and Case has changed and the stalwarts who have been there a long time deserve the right to have their gallery back if that is their true feelings we can relay to AZ management if that is the case of the collective.

The sticky thread for new cues is not the way to go IMO because it is one thread for all at the same time. For me, having a thread to showcase a cue gives a view of a cue building process that is sequential and can be followed. People let me know daily that they like viewing the progress pics and enjoy it. I love viewing cues this way by other CMs. I build the dam things and still get excited with each milestone along the way myself. Bob from DZ Cue is the Zen Master in this discipline on his website and has taken this to another level as he has great videos of his processes that are super cool. He has influenced many a cue maker and cue enthusiast with his awesome machining and cue making skill sets.

I truly believe that cue enthusiasts like viewing the process and seeing the finished cue at the end. That won't work with a sticky thread because it would be interrupted with other guy's stuff being posted. Kind of like a patch work quilt with different cues all jammed together. The viewer would lose the continuity and that is why I think the sticky thread is failing now as it should. Why would use a sticky thread if you have the opportunity to create an exclusive one with a title and the option to search for the site specific thread down the road. More options, more better.

Good idea! Let them, have all their work organized, so others could check out multiple works of art very simply!

Should have had I dont care box.

I don't care but would go to both areas everyday so to me, it don't matter one way another.

if guys would be happy so be what happens

sometimes more subforums leads to too many niche's and friends loose touch because they dont take the time or have the time to visit lots of different sub-forums.

I think the solution is not what the vote here represents, I voted for a seperate "showcase", then I thought of my 10+ years on forums, i have seen some grow from single thread forums to 100+ subfourms over the years. based on that experience, this picture forum of cues isnt all that big and chopping it into more pieces will harm our "communtiy" than it will serve it. With that in mind, I dont think that my first inclination and vote is the right move.

I think if cue builders want to post pics of their work along side the collectors/customers they should be allowed to do so, the basic fact is were looking at cue pics, not shopping-however everyone here sees a cue and wonders what it costs and if its avaliable, thats human nature. some cues are for sale some arnt, dont matter its just pictures-cue porn.

dividing cue pictures into subclasses will divide the cue community, we have a forsale section that works well. leave AZB as is, thats my thought.

best regards to everyone

Eric:)

Eric,

After reading your post about splitting the community I must agree with your sediments 100%.

Posting new cues on cue and case is a good fit as long as CMs are not seen as a negative to the cue and case posters.

Since only 6% of people don't want CMs to post maybe it is best to leave well enough alone as you summed it up.

I agree their is nothing wrong with the cue makers or case makers posting their new cues or cases.
