Cue making difference on play....

While I think I am common one of us AZers so I thought this might be an interesting thread.

I am a cue flipper, I turn about 20 cues a year, alot of the times because I can make a little, or want to try something new. It usually takes me a little time to play with a different cue. I am currently playing with a James White, ebony on ebony cue. I absolutely love it, but hell I love alot of cues.

Questions.

1. I play considerably better with a cue with a stiff hit. I CANNOT ADJUST TO ANY TYPE OF CUE. I know what I like and if I dont like it, I trade it quickly. Is this why most of you trade sell cues?

2. I hear these old stories about hustlers playing "off the wall" with a house cue. I absolutely suck with house cues, can you play with a house cue?

hmmm

Nope, I hate house cues too. But that is one reason when I travle for work or vacation, I bring a piece of good chalk, a piece of sandpaper and a tip shaper with me. Small enough to fit in my front pocket, so when I hit a local pool room, at least it feels a little better after 2 minutes of work on the tip and shaft. Take some of the grime off the shaft and do what I can for the tip, and heck, having a good piece of chalk is sometimes the only nuts you need.

And no, never had a room owner ask what the heck I was doing.....

Played with one for many years long ago. As long as it is a wooden cue and NOT fiberglass I'm fine. Usually they have a real stiff hit which is what I personally like.

Well - I just got back from vacation in San Francisco, and I also travel some for work too. I have a Fellini 1X2 case that I take my current playing cue in. I put it in one of my checked luggage roller bags. I talked with DELTA and they said I had $3300 of coverage if it gets lost of stolen. My normal Justis 2X4 case is impossible to put inside the roller case.

I too prefer a stiff hitting cue. I mainly shoot with a Schon or a Joss, but have a Dale Perry with a modified taper done by Jim Ingram that I like a lot. As far as house cues, it's hard to find one with a decent tip or one that's shaft is not beat to hell.

I can play pretty well with anything. However, I play better with my own because I "trust" it if that makes any sense. I have found a few 1 piece wooden house cues that play awesome.

I too am a Flipper..i started about 4 yrs ago..played with all types of cues
that first year..some middle of the road cues and many high end customs..
my game was effected by all the change..now i loved most of these cues
and only a very few hit bad..so when i decided on one cue..which i have now been playing with for over 2.5 years..my game got consistant..when i play with a house cue i use open bridge..i scuff the tip with my keys and use very little english..as a result my game is usually off using one..SA

I used to travel a lot before I retired last year and I was told that the max that Delta would pay out on lost or damaged baggage was $300.
