If you are referring to a certain ebony and ivory box cue, it has ivory sleeved (actually screwed and glued) over ebony that continues on down into the forearm.
That particular cue is the one I play with all the time, and I describe it as having as good a hit as any cue I ever played with.
By the way, Nick Varner played the maker of this particular cue on my table at our home in October, and beat the cuemaker while playing with my cue. It is tough when you (DS) get beat by someone (NV) playing with a weapon you (DS) built! Heh, heh, heh....
The good news is that the winner of that game ordered a cue from that cuemaker that very hour!
