so i picked up a very nice cue with a lizard leather wrap and it looks amazing... there seems to be a slight tilt in the leather which makes it roll funny slightly now if i roll the butt apart from the shaft. my question is this common with wraps... should i get it re done... im confused i love the cue but im bothered that the wrap makes it a hair off...

Is it common, no. Can it happen if the wrap groove was not cut deep enough, yes. Should you get it redone, that's up to you. If it bothers you, ask the person who put it on to take a look at it for you.
Unless the person that wrapped it would step up and make it right I would not unless it's being resold!it wont hurt the way it plays one bit but could hurt resell.....

If it doesn't effect the hit or play , just your brain , I wouldn't sweat it so much . it 's only cosmetic ...
DON'T ROLL LEATHER WRAPPED CUE on the slate.
Roll it with the shaft with joint area on the top rail slowly 360 degrees and look at the ferrule if it wobbles.
If you want to check the butt's straightness, look at the bottom of the forearm when rolling on top rail to see it wobbles.

not a bad idea as long as the rail is completly strait and the cloth isnt pulled slightly tighter in one spot over another making it have a slight wave to the cushion. i dont think this is a good way to tell or not.
if the wrap groove is cut properly, and you measure the width of your wrap material there shouldnt be a problem at all.
This was discussed on this forum a while back. Leathers can and will vary in thickness. Especially skins like Elephant, shark and Lizard. Because the Lizard skin are usually cut so that you see the back and the belly of the skin in one wrap it is the most noticeable. In the cases that the wraps are thicker, instead of cutting the entire groove deeper, some of the guys only cut the outer edges deeper in the groove so the wrap feels flush. I can only guess that this is done, should the owner of the cue decide to go back to Irish linen, and if the same person does the job, only the outer edges would have to be built up. It is possible that this was done on your cue.
Some Lizard skins that are cut cross ways on the skin produces a pebble pattern on the two ends and a wide pattern in the middle. That wide pattern is made up of flat ridges that can cause even a bump bump noise when rolling the cue. I agree that rolling a Lizard skin wrapped cue is better done on the rail instead of the table bed.
