Cue repair- Wrap

So I got a Schon a few months back brand new straight from the factory ordered specially for me and well Ive been having issues with the wrap... BAD issues with the wrap and I know it has to get replaced at this point, however I was not received well when telling them that there was a problem with the cue they made me. They told me I could pay them to replace the wrap, I called them the day the issue occurred [less than a week after receiving said cue].

Any how, I need to get the wrap replaced I would like to go to a stacked leather wrap or stay with pure black linen or something along those lines.
I am in Houston, Texas. I know of two cue makers in the area however neither Spates, nor Wade want the business apparently. So if you are in the area I will gladly use you first I would prefer not to ship it away.. Its my baby  . I will try and take pictures of it but to give you an idea of how bad it has gotten, try grabbing a Scotch pad and shooting with that..

I must not be understanding something because a linen rewrap is a pretty easy job. Stacked leather is a bit trickier, but still well within the "doable" range for most cue repairman.

Your cue is a brand new Schon custom? So, I'm assuming you spent a couple bucks. But now they won't rewrap it for you? What exactly is wrong with the wrap?

Also, now 2 local cue guys have turned you down? They can't be turning you down because the job is too difficult. Perhaps I'm way off, but I'll just ask flat out: Are you being way too picky? You do describe your cue as "my baby". Not trying to offend you, just trying to figure this out. A couple pics of the wrap would be helpful.

Finally, you say the linen wrap feels like a green Scotch pad? I'm assuming that means rough, right? Did it feel like that the first time you grabbed it? If not, I'd assume the sweat from your palm is making the wrap fuzzy, then when it dries the salt in the sweat crystallizes and feels crunchy.

Just clean the wrap with a damp towel and press the linen flat again using a piece of plastic. Rub it back and forth about a thousand times. ;-) Or have a cue guy clean and repress it.

Well I didnt really want to spend 95$+cost of linen and tax and whatever else to get it done at the place where I get shaft maintenance done.. For a linen wrap.
It was not that I got turned down or even was picky at all. All I asked was how much for stacked leather and where are you located to take a look at the cue and did not get a response anymore from one. the other had his phone off or disconnected.

Yes more than just a couple bucks was spent. They told me at my cost they would try to fix it or I could pay them to re wrap it. Just was not the warm welcoming I was looking to receive from them.

Well to give you the best example the linen itself is unwinding causing it to become really rugged and irritating to the hand. Its like trying to grab the rough side of a sponge pretty much, a scotch pad. It does not feel crunchy per say but like the linen just started to unwind, there was no coating like wax or a finish on the linen at all, It was just kind of cloth. However it could very well be the sweat from my hand, its just that I have never had this issue before with previous Schons, and linen wrapped cues.

I had that suggested to me Ive been using Cookie sheets[wax paper] to repress it into place and it works for a while but once the wax that was put on wears out it goes back to the previous feeling.

I am attached to my cue, I was not really being picky I just didnt really feel like over paying for a re wrap. Its more of my taking care of my equipment and generally dont think Im going to be able to afford another upscale cue any time soon.

I think that answered your questions. Not entirely sure though.

Yes, that was a good answer. Since you've never had the same problem with linen before, perhaps the linen is coming apart, as odd as it sounds. Hopefully you find someone close to you, or maybe a traveling cue repair guy at a tourney close by. Linen rewrap should only be in the $50 range.

If you can wait, there is a big tournament in spring next month at Big Time billiards and im sure that Ron Geyer will be there doing repairs and he can replace your wrap.

Shons response

If the the cue is only a few months old you would think Shon would want to take care of it.....If it's just linen they could do that in no time at all.....Sorry for your trouble......One question do you think you spent your money wisely?............Ray Weeks

I'd like to ask what kind of case you use?
I've seen a lot of wraps turn ugly due to the hard tube type case....

I was hoping buying a schon with customizations and everyhting I might have been talked to kindly. I love how the cue plays, just did not think they would be so cold to someone who only plays on their cues. I know better now and they lost repeat business. This is my third and final Schon.
When I spoke to them about it, it was not a few months old it was a few days old.

It would not be the case, given I have only had linen wrapped cues and they have all at one point or another been in the case. Though I could see what your saying.

It was in a 4x6 that has loose seperations not tubes now its in a 1x2 sterling with the ultrapad interior.
