Cue restoration

Who would I send a cue to have it restored. I know some restorations actually decrease the value of the cue if not done right, so I'm looking for recommendations. I have an uncle who has an old Schon, r2 I believe, and it would be a nice anniversary gift if we could get it restored for him....thanks

Scot at Proficient Billiards does an fantastic job...he would be my choice. He has done many for me and all where fantastic.

Steve Klapp does refinishes for $125 and does it with a leather wrap for $150. Hard to beat that!

His number is 309.361.7162

You say "restoration" instead of refinish/rewrap...what else does the cue need?

Another fast, inexpensive cuesmith who does a ton of high quality restoration is Ryan Theewan (RAT Cues) at www.muellers.com ...Call 1-800-925-7665 or email him at cuerepair@muellers.com with any questions.

Scott Sherbine, Steve Klapp, Bryan Mordt and a lot of others do a great job, if they have time to fit you in. That is the problem with Schon...those guys are always so busy that it is tough to get in to them.

All of the above suggestions are good ones.

I prefer Scott at Proficient and Ryan at Muellers because the do excellent work, low cost, and incredible turnaround time.

But all of the above suggestions are good ones.

If Schon wont return your calls, why do you want to give them business?

Ryan Theewen. I believe he used to, or still does work for Muellers. He makes RAT cues. I have seen many pics of his work, and his reputation is impeccable.

I know it needs cleaned up, re-finished, not sure about wrap, but I would like to make sure that it's done right without adding/deleting something that would change it's value.
I know my uncle would like to see it in it's new original condition if possible....thanks

I don't want to give them business, just wanted it done right for my uncle. The old cue means a lot to him

The thing about Scot and Ryan is predictability. They do what they say, when they say, for how much $$ they say.

edit: Not to mention the fact that the work that they do is top notch!

Many members on here (including myself) recommend Scot at Proficient Billiards for good reason. He's refinished and repaired just about every type of cue you can imagine, and experience is what you want when handling something as special. Not to mention his cost and turnaround time is hard to beat.

If the wrap isn't torn or beat to crap, I would have the cue refinished and just have the wrap cleaned by him. That way the finish will look brand new like the day your uncle bought it, and the wrap will be original so it will have the same feel. He'll likely love it.

Here's a pic of my old Joss before and after just to give you a look at his work...

Here are a couple that I had restored by Ryan Theewan...both needed a lot of work. He has done several cues for me. Scot Sherbine has also done many cues for me, also...both are great to work with, and both do great work.

I'll throw in a vote for Scott Sherbine at Proficient Billiards, too. I had him refinish a Schick sneaky pete a few months ago and it turned out awesome. His communication through the entire process was great and he made sure to follow all of my special instructions perfectly. On top of that, his turnaround time was extremely fast (like 10 or 12 days).
