I will back Bill Dominiak up- I don't order a lot, but I did get a few off color and warped finish shaft years ago I called him and 5 days later replacement shafts arrived. I'm actually going to be placing an oder in the near future.

As an update, only due to this being dragged up, I ended up buying 10 A grade shafts finish size and got 10 shafts that were 14 - 15mm shafts that looked like a beaver chewed them out of twigs. The barber shop twist was unbelievable and I waited about 2-3 weeks to receive that. I then sent an email expressing my displeasure, and a week later he responded that they would replace them and was surprised that someone used the barbershop pole likeness....and said I was correct and must have been a dull blade. About 10 days later I received the 10 replacement shafts and while they had less chatter marks, and were 13.5 mm average...it certainly wasn't what I would call A grade shafts at finish size especially when it's advertised as " Ready for final sanding/seal." It was a bi@#h to sand the chatter marks out.
I was finally able to use about 3/4 of them, but with a lot of sanding that shouldn't have been required. They also had a large amount of whippyness to them, wasn't as high of grain count as stated on website.
I have not bought from since and will never for the future...he made good with replacements, but they fell drastically short also.
Just my experiances. I don't think one should have to buy big amounts to get a good product, It seems Atlas and other larger purchaser's gets the better product from him than do the little people.

I guess I'm in the minority. I was behind on my shafts and ordered 12 shafts (custom grade) that needed one more cut. Most of them went in the trash because after having them for about a month, they were no longer straight. Perhaps the dowls are fine, but from now on, I won't trust shafts that I don't cut myself.

The same thing happened too me. I ordered 6 custom grade shafts because I needed super clean shafts for a order and was behind. After a month 3 shafts went south (fire wood) I called Bill and he was great. He sent me 3 more shafts. But in my eyes the next 3 weren't custom grade. After that I just turn my own.

I agree 100% with having complete control over your shaft processing. I would never trust a shaft merchant as their goal is to sell shafts and thats it. I am not knocking any shaft merchant but I want complete control of from picking the region the kiln dried 5/4 stock wood planks come from including classifying density and grain, doweling, 6 minute passes on all cuts, seasoning years in my shop, and observation at many points along the way.

I prefer to turn from dowel, and is what I do most of the time, but anytime I have been in a pinch, and needed final taper or something close I have just ordered them from Chris. Even if they still needed a turn or 2 I was able to turn them to size fairly quick without any major movement, but then He is not that far from me so It could be that our climate conditions are similar ( That's another reason I would buy them from him when I don't have enough turned to size from My own stock) I also receive what We discussed from him, and what I paid for, not someone Else's interpretation of high grade. He's always straight with me about what I'm getting before we even make a deal on them. I've only done this on occasion when My own stock ran low, and I was behind in My turns, but I can't remember even 1 shaft that came from him that I wasn't able to use.

I had always heard decent things about Bill's shafts back in the day, and I think I may have even bought some of them from Atlas many years ago. I can't really say anything bad about them other then I had to turn them very slowly. I can't remember how much waste I had if any, but I do remember having to take small multiple passes with them. of coarse that's been a long time ago.

Just wondering if the 3+ weeks was the normal wait time. I ordered a single laminated shaft 3 weeks ago and has not arrived yet. I called the 2nd week and was told they would ship one out that week and 2 weeks is the norm but I still havent seen it. Not very happy about this at the moment.

Then simply phone the supplier and politely ask for a refund; then move on. You're looking to save money by purchasing from him. He does thousands in business and does things at his pace. Deal with it or call it a day and stop crying about it in a public forum like a little girl. Geesh!

Bill doesn't need the aggravation. He's a hard worker as are most business owners and he doesn't need nor deserve the negativity. Instead of spending time here denigrating the guy, give him a call and work it out or get a refund.
