cue tip installed wrong?

i went to my local dealer that i have started using a few months ago, i bought a lucasi cue there and told him id be back for a tiger tip fast foward and i picked up my cue yesterday and noticed it was a dime shape wich he shaped and he assumed i liked and i failed to mention to go nickel, it looked a hair crooked and seemed to be shaped more on one side than the other i rooled it on the table and it is obviously out of whack,so i tried my best to shape it to a nickel but it still a little mushroomed on one side i seemed to have improved it but im sure i wore off quite a bit ,u kno it is a $20 tip ,do u guys think i will be ok or might it cause me to miss more than not ?it really seems like a mind over matter issue.... oh and yes im not letting him touch my cues again ..

I will ask the obvious, why would you not take it back to the guy and have him replace it as you wanted - although, if you did not tell him what you wanted to begin with, guess you can't really be upset about it.

If you are unhappy, take it back and see if the guy stands behind it. If not, then lesson learned and don't retrrn business. Is the tip flush with the ferulle all the way around?
 
i understand the part of not asking what i wanted but should i ask for proffesional insatll evry time?? i mean who ses hey guy dont half ass this job lol , and its not flush with the ferrule its a hair off ,and i kno shaping into a dime eventually goes to a nickel ,and i didnt tell him anything wen i was ther cuz he was wit a customer and the guy is really cool he just needs to place some tlc on a few things ,and i kno ure prob saying then keep quiet lol but my main query is will it affect play?

If it has effected you enough to post about, it will certainly effect your play. Any concerns about your equipment, especially your tip will ruin your mental game.

If I were you I would either have it properly fixed or have it replaced.
 
thanxz manwon but as we speak or type i have been parcticing and i have been doing ok ithink im gonna be fine and im gonna just use the cue for a little bit and then go to anothe place , btw wats ure take on long versus short ferrules? i might end up posting a thread bout this just thought id give u guys a first peek at thread lol...
 
No he did not ask what he wanted as far as dime or nickel shape. that should not matter. what ever he got should have been true all the way around regardless. and shaped perfectly. Something was said about the tip being somewhat shaped on one side of the tip. I do cue repairs in the New England area and have been for the past 25 years. I have done tips for players with a bad shaft. that dose not spin well on a lathe. if the shaft has a wobble of any kind to it. It is very hard to shape the tip perfectly. often times you will see the tip looks crooked. never the less
If the repair man who did the tip cared at all about quality he would of never let the tip go like that. end of story. I would not go back to him
at all. live and learn. If you are interested and in a jam ship me the shaft.
I will re-tip it for you and ship it back to you the next day. free of charge. If you need any referances Mike Gartland of quality cues has shipped his shafts to me for work. and we all know he has high end cues. check with him if you like. good day to all
 
thanxz jt , i will go back to him to buy chalk and minor stuff and no the shaft is not warped but even if it was im sure another installer would cover his butt by admitting
"hey this tip is crooked cuz of so so and so"
 
I do cue repair and the better players lean towards the nickel. I'll usually ask if thats what they want. Otherwise I'll go close to a dime for the novice players to help them turn the ball over a little better. I certainly have had players ask me to add more roundness or less after I have retipped their cue. Doesn't bother me to rechuck up the shaft and blade it with the customer there. I do want them to be happy! I'm sure your cue repair guy would fix it for you but I don't know what kind of equipment he has and how he is putting them on anyway.

You should not have touched it at all and bring it back to him.
 
Tip shape

Nickel shaped is standard, anything else is special request. He should have asked you, or you should have told him what you preferred.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd find me a new guy write a note rubber band it to shaft as to exactly what I wanted done. If you can't wait on a new tip thats the only way to do it. Then if its not exactly as requested get him to touch it up. No worries!!!!!!!!!!!!!
