Cue Tip Problem

Hey everybody. I bought a Viking cue with an Everest tip from Seyberts about 6 mths ago. Been playing a fair bit, and just recently noticed that the layered Everest tip is starting to fail. Looks like the top couple of layers are lostening up and getting ready to come off in one chunk. I can take my finger nail and actually pry up a bit on the layers that are coming apart. Is this normal for a 6 mth old tip to need to be replaced or did I just get unlucky with a faulty tip? Is it worth a call to Seyberts to let them know and maybe they'll send me a new tip? I just think it's a bit rediculous to have to retip a 6 mth old cue. :mad:

Second, you don't know how the OP treats his tip. For all you know, he is using a tip-tapper (needle type) on it.

More information is needed, but I wouldn't even waste my time trying to get a replacement tip. Throw a new one on and go play.

I had problems with a box of sniper tips delaminating, On customers cues and on my own
I made a couple phone calls, I was told moisture caused the problem.

From what I have read, and learned, that moisture , and/or heat will cause a tip to delaminate.

I see alot of pool players will pick up a drink and then touch their cue with a wet hand, Shaft and tip.

Gloves have draw backs too, because the hold moisture.

Bottom line is the tip needs to be replaced.
And if moisture did cause this then maybe the op will be more carefull not to let it happen again.
If he did in the first place.

I dont know of anyone that will warranty a tip after 6 months

If you are using a tip *****er on a layered tip. Stop it.

If it is only 2 layers, knock them off and reshape. If the problem persists, put on a new tip. You just got a bad one.

Apparently, you can say shit but not p ricker.
 
Order some Ultra Skin layered tips from Tom Hay here on this very forum.

You will be happy you did.

Yes, imo this should be the first thing that you do. If you have alot of the tip left like when the cue was first purchased, you can take the two problem layers off and you may even like the hit of the cue better than you do now. I always take my tips about halfway down right outta the gate and I get a hit that I like much better than the full version.

If this doesn't work you can have the tip replaced, as suggested by the others in the thread. But, I myself would take two or three layers off first and go from there.
 
If I got 6 months out of a tip I would be ecstatic. If I have no other issues my tips usually last maybe 6 weeks. Some tips are just bad and some layers are bad. I have had tips delaminate while shaping a brand new tip on the lathe and others coming off after a miscue. If I have one layer come off or start to delaminate I just replace it and move on so I don't risk other layers doing the same.

Here's probably the best answer to your problem, but if you're a mind to, try one of the new FourSkin tips from Steamer Cue Sports Ltd. They come in Limp, Kinda Hard, and Damned Hard.
You'll be pleasantly surprised. :smile:

This was my first layered tip. I did use a shaper to shape it. How else should I shape it? As for storage, it's either standing vertically in my case or vertically in it's stand at home. Humidity is normal in the house, and only moisture is ever on the shaft during cleaning. Looks like it might be just a bad tip or maybe my shaping it affected it.

These however may not work if you are taking blood pressure medication or after a salty meal. If play persists longer than four hours contact a physician

How can we help you?,
You need a new tip installed,
Are you needing a name of a cue repair man living close to you?
We can guess on what caused the problem , You didnt post any pictures and even if you did we could only offer our thoughts on why your tip fell apart.


I have had 5 or 6 sniper tips delaminate, I asked the same question too Cue man billiards Chris hightower about 7 years ago.
Chris Hightower told me moisture caused it..........................................
The tips I had I have no idea how or when they got wet except that it was one box of tips having this problem.
So I marked the box and only installed these tips on my own cue.
Its hard to take a hundred dollar bill and throw it away, and thats just about what I had into the box.
I still like sniper tips alot.......................

We dont know for sure what caused your tip to fail, but keep your new tip away from moisture.
And needle style tip picks.

We really dont know how long you have been around cues being retipped,
If you post the name of the city you live in we can try to find a cue repairman close to you.
Most pool halls have someone who can replace your tip.
