I am going to order a new custom cue from Carolina cues soon that will have a Kamui Black tip on it & I was wondering if anyone could tell me which hardness would give the most action on the cueball?.

The action on a cueball would depend on the shooter shooting the shots.

Just depends what you like and how you shoot.

Some like it hard and some like it soft.

Your stroke will depend on how much action you get. It's arguable that a softer tip will give more action if your stroke isn't perfect every time. I prefer hard tips. Softer tips tend to mushroom easily. I have heard positive things about Kamui Med & Hard tips.

If it were me, I'd go with the Kamui Hard.

I have been playing with soft Elk Masters & Brunswick Blue Diamonds for 46years. They were & I think still are some of the softest tips out there.

I just got an OB Classic with a Kamui super soft tip in June. At first it was virtually unplayable for me. Way too soft & required much more stroke to get any speed onto the cue ball. I was advised to take a few layers off as it, as it is very thick. I did & it plays better. I just played with it on a very fast Simonis 9 footer yesterday. It did not work well, for me. I changed shafts to my McD i2 with a less soft tip & it was like night & day. the speed control I simply could not get tuned in with the Kamui was right there. The reason is, I feel, that you can stroke softer & get enough on the cue ball without the larger stroke.

So...the bottom line is I have no real answer for you. It's simply what do you want?
Personally, I would suggest not going with a super soft. That's the best I can do.

Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Regards,

Do know how you play . But ultralayer tips are good the med put just the right amount of spin on the ball , the soft stick to the cb longer and it will make you change you aiming point ..

kamui tips

I have used nothing but Kamui Black the last several years. Before I was a moori user.

to me though, the kamui's are just a little harder than their rating.

the kamui black med was like my moori hard. I just switched over to kamui black soft and that's more like a med.

I think next time I'll go with Kamui black super soft.

My favorite Kamui would have to be a soft cut way down short or a medium at a medium height. I used Kamui for years hard and soft, black and brown... as well as every other layered tip out there. After trying a milk dud (hard pressed elkmaster), I will NEVER shoot with a layered tip again. Try one you will not regret it. I can jump much better, it breaks like a phenolic tip, and I am still in shock at the action I get with the cue ball. It hits solid like a Kamui brown hard and never flattens or mushrooms, but it grabs the ball like an elk or lepro. So it's really the best of both worlds. Now I find myself miscuing often when I play with one of my spare cues, which has I think a Kamui brown medium. And my break cue hasn't come out of the case once since putting milkduds on my playing shafts.

I just have to recommend this tip any time I see a tip thread. The general consensus seems to be that most who try a pressed elkmaster are hooked... including Efren and many AZBers.

I like Onyx

I liked moori's for a while, then went to kamui's. I liked the soft, tried the super soft but just never felt comfortable. Tried a Tiger Onyx tip and have never looked back. Just think about trying it; I love this tip after trying quite a few of the popular tips out there. It feels like a medium but gives great action for my stroke. I was one of those people that always thought that softer tip equals more action. This tip feels like a medium hit but grabs the cue ball like a mother panda holding onto its' young. It is the first tip change I ever had that I had to change the way I hit my banks because the TRANSFERRED english was so much greater that it was throwing my banks off. That has to tell you something.

What I used to tell my customers, when asked that question, was this. If you are new to the game try a medium, or a soft tip. If you've been around for awhile you might like a medium, or perhaps a hard tip.
If they were an A player, or better, then I figured they had probably figured it out already and I wouldn't embarrass either of us by asking.
