Cue veneer material help needed.

Anyone

Does anyone know what type of material is used for the white veneers for example on the older Black Boar cues? I know that it is not a wood veneer, nor an Ivory veneer. My guess is phenolic or plastic. Can anyone verify the material and more importantly provide a resourse in which to purchase.

Maybe someone other than a cuemaker has the info I am searching for. Is there any harm in asking everyone (main forum) ???????

I have two older Black Boar Cues. Both have African Elephant Ivory for the veneers. I bought these cues directly from Tony @ Black Boar in 91. It is my understanding from Tony that the cues he made 1990 and up, Ivory was the standard veneer material. The best place to start on trying to find a BB to purchase is www.blackboarcustomcues.com. I think I would have taken an offensive stance also. Your reply sounded more like a command than a helpful hint such as "You may get more answers on the cue makers forum.).

Why do you want to purchase Tony's veneers? Are you doing work to repair an older BB cue? If you are then you really have that cue torn soooo far apart that it would never even closely resemble a Black Boar original once it was re-assembled and if you were to try and sell it as a original BB,- that would be wrong. So I have to ask myself what is the purpose of your inquiry, and should I give you your answer.

I Am Not A Cue Maker

For anyone or everyone who is reading more into this than what I am asking.
Lets try this. I am looking to have a cue made. In this cue I want to have the whitest veneer possible. The whitest veneers I have seen have not been made of wood. I have seen and have cues with both a bleached white wood veneer and also white veneers made with another NON-Ivory material. I have used Black Boar cues as an example that I thought people (non cue-makers) would be familiar with. I will also include pictures of an old Viking cue as a picture sample of what I am looking to try to duplicate in my white veneer search.

If anyone has any idea of what this white veneer may be made of or where I could possibly purchase it. I plan to give it to my cuemaker or give him the resource info to buy it himself. Thanks again for any help or leads.

It is fiber, and he has not done the fiber veneers in about 13-14yrs and I dont know where you can purchase his type of fiber, but one of the things nobody thinks about is how the finish can affect the look of the wood,ivory,fiber,etc.---The Finish plays a HUGE roll in what the materials under the finish look like.

Some of those old ones, like the Viking, were made with vinyl but they weren't really veneers. The were an L shaped piece of vinyl with no miter. I don't see why a cuemaker couldn't use a sheet of white micarta for veneers.

But they are right, it's best to ask some of the cue makers. The other person I would ask is Martin at Westerncue. Martin makes colored veneers himself. He can probably get you some very white material. He has an amazing assortment of veneers.

My last cue was made with the Bleached White Veneers from Martin. Don't get me wrong the veneers look good but still just not as white as I am hoping for in the non wood materials. Thanks for your suggestions along with evryone elses as well. I am going to see Phillippi on Tuesday as I think he still has some white material (fibre) that I am searching for.

Black Boar uses work intensive deep-knifed points to get the look of veneers, not actual simple veneers. For that reason, he's probably using ivory for the "white veneers".
