dont know how much i will end up charging on these but i will make one for three hundred even to the first person to take me up on the deal...........i saw a cue that was an old sneakypete butt with a wrap added on and it had no finish except for an oil finish like they use on gunstocks and an ob 1 shaft. i loved the simplicity of it and have been wanting to try one out with that finish.........so the first person to take me up on it gets it done and shipped to their door for one paypal of an even $300.00. butt will be an actual splice not an old house cue butt. will come with a radial pin and joint protectors....... let me know if your interested

missing somthing

am i missing somthing?is there a cue posted somwhere to go with this post, not sure what this is in reference to.

This is the same guy who is offering to make wrapped sneakies for $150 in the main forum. He says he'll make you a full splice (no house cue) with an OB-1 shaft delivered to your door for $300. I'd be a little concerned because just a full splice butt blank & wholesale OB-1 will cost more than the $300. He has only 15 post so I'd be somewhat wary. Who is "HanshewCustomQ" anyway? How many cues have they built? Whats his name? Etc? Come on this forum & trying to low ball other makers prices....

Edited to add: he also states in another OB-1 thread in the main forum....that he builds cues "part time as a hobbie".

He appears to be a young guy just starting out with a new cue making business.

He has a myspace site:

"My name is James Hanshew. I am the owner/operator and sole employee of Hanshew Custom Cues. I work full time on an ambulance and am a certified firefighter. My wife, Amy is a fourth grade teacher at Provident Heights Elementary in Waco. Hanshew custom cues was established in March 2006. Gary Dawkins, ( blue book of pool cues 3rd edition ) retired and put all of his equipment, inventory and supplies up for sale. ................I would like to thank most importantly God and my wife Amy, and also my family and friends for their support and encouragement. Without it, I doubt I would have made it through the first few months. I would also like to thank Gary Dawkins, Steve Lomax, and Chris Hightower. ( the latter two being other custom cue makers ) They have been and continue to be a tremendous help to me and I cant thank them enough."

I wish him all the luck in the world.

Do you have any pics of your work? Basic specs of your cues? References?
Anything to help us decide to buy one of your cues? Not trying to be difficult, just want to make an educated decision.

Thanks,
Mike

Full Splice blank = around 30-50 dollars.
OB blank.....= at most.....150.

So that's 180-200. He's not making a killing but he is not trying to scam anyone varney. I've personally seen this guys cues in person and they are top notch. A star in the making. don't shy away from him because he is new. and there are a few pics of his cues on his myspace. I would definetely put my name on the line for him. And that's the god's honest truth. There are just some people that you meet and can tell they are just great people. This young guy is one of them. I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him for a second.

This comment, coming from another cuemaker, is ... a bit tacky. Are you the only one allowed to bombard the forum with cues and services?

Mr.Varney
you are right that i made the other post for the sneaky for 150, i also said that was an old house cue butt and a shaft that i dont consider good enough for my cues and no finish, was just trying to help the guy out with a decent cue to take to the bar in his price range. that however was just an offer to him and not somthing i plan on selling, as you have pointed out allready there is no money in it, and also said my name would not be on it. sorry for that confusion, i guess next time i should send a private email........as far as the ob-1 cue is concerned your right............i wont be making hardly anthing on it. also said i was only making one at that price and i wasnt sure what i would wind up charging, a big part of that will depend on how much time i wind up with on the natural oil finish, i have never done one before so i dont have a clue on how much time goes into it.......not trying to lowball any of you big cue makers...........just saw a cue like that and liked it so i wanted to build one, i am still new and figured it wouldnt hurt to get my name out some, so i thought i would make one and see how it came out and sell it to someone cheap...........and my name is James Hanshew

Mike,
yes on the pics.......some on the myspace page that Jeff pointed out ( still working on an actual website ) have more pics in yahoo photos under hanshewcustomcues, no on the basic specs and yes on the references. i will try to get a list togather for you. thanks Tony, and Jeff for your support. For a few references you can go to the tournament listing site and ask some people that have put post on the waco monthly $30.00 9 ball thread.......a lot of the people that have came down have at least hit a few balls with my cue and some of the other ones are local people who know me. No prob dont consider it difficult at all.......$300.00 is quite a bit of money and i dont blame you at all for wanting to check me out...........as the old saying goes " trust in God............but lock your car"
James

????????

James my advice would be to make a couple of cues, post pics and go from there. If people like your product they will give you good rep.ect. ect. Probably starting out their is more money in repair an working with several of your local rooms. It is essential that you maintain good quality control. You sound like the kind of guy that wants to do right. I sincerely hope this endeavor works ror you. Looking forward to seeing one of your cues.

Pinocchio

After thought: You might also try making one in a conventional shaft ferrule combo.

Sorry, but your prices are wrong. Prather sells their "Economy" spliced butts (turned down house cues) for $56 to $74 dollar. He said quote "Full Splice"...Prather full splices run from $160 to $240. Plus the OB-1....now do the math again.
Hey...I hope the best for the guy...his price quotes just seemed a bit off to me. You need to be VERY careful how you word things here on the forum. New guy shows up...prices so cheap it seemed fishy...sorry if I passed along my feelings that something was out of wack. Sorry if I offended anyone. I'll let you grown men make your own decisions...and I'll keep my opinions to myself.

He didn't say veneered full-splice though.:)
Economy full-splice are still full-splice in my books since the handle and points are the same piece.

The "economy" are turned down house cues. Prather's full splice, NO veneer blanks start at...$160. Nothing wrong with using a housecue full splice...he just said he wasn't.;)

Instead of just rolling your eyes and running your mouth how about putting a wager on it? I will wager I can show you a supplier selling cocbolo into BEM and purpleheart into BEM full splice blanks for under $50 (ebony is slightly more) Let's say we keep it friendly and wager $200 or are you all talk?

You must be talking about Joe. Go ahead and order you some then. You may want to doublecheck...they are not into birdseye maple...just maple.
Some suppliers have superior products.
Get your parts where you choose.

No, I'm not talking about Joe, and I know there are several respected cuemakers on this board that use the supplier I am talking about.
