Cue with a Crab scrimshaw ??

He was savvy enough to realize that all the early interest and offers meant he had something. Glad to see the auction run it's course.

Makes me think of '"Pawn Stars" when someone walks in to thier shop with no idea what they have or what it's worth.

I saw one episode of that show where the owner (Rick ?) was negotiating with a customer and on the bookshelf behind him was a copy of 'The Blue Book of Pool Cues'.

A friend of mine has an old Helmstetter (ivory inlays), and when we go out next year he's going to take it there just to see what they offer...

Well one thing for me is, if you're selling a cue running over 2k, don't take pictures of it laying on a sidewalk. WTF?

i don't get it....I have seen buskas go for less than that in better condition....does someone know something we don't????>?

I have never seen an authenticated Balabushka sell anywhere near that price. But, the price doesn't surprise me very much at all, Kersenbrock is a very under rated cue maker by many, but those in the know understand the true value of his cues especially the early ones like this cue. Most of the cues that come up for sale by Paul are plain Jane or cues attributed to him when he was working with another company, but unlike so many cue makers his early work was his best and fanciest. I mean the guy was an innovator, who designed an entirely new style of taper, Pin, and inlay method's, along with construction techniques, plus he greatly contributed to some of most famous cue companys and individual makers building cues today. I mean he invented an optical Pantograph, not to mention Shaft cutting machines and he specifically modified so many of peices of machinery for cue making that I don't think their is anyone in his league living today. If Paul had never become sick so early in the game I don't think there would be any living cue maker in his league today.

In my opinion he up there with greats, and with that said he never made as many cues as Gus, George or any of the others.

The over all condition of the cue is pretty good from what I could see minus the shaft, and since Kersenbrock is still alive and living in Chicago with Ed Young, the cue could br sent to Young to be refinished and have a new shaft made it. With that done the cue is worth $6000 plus even in todays market.
