Cue wrap..or no wrap?

I've always tried to subscribe to the KISS school of thought. Eften likes a "slick" cue, Good enough for me.

Iv'e picked up a few "house cues" with Irish linen wraps. Most have long since needed to be replaced, makes ya want to wash your hands. Ya can't "feel' the wood. Kinda like the "glove".

Everything under the "wrap" is somewhat suspect?.Cover up all your "handy" work? Cored or not. Ain't even talking "splices".

Good cue artisan??? Go Sneaky Pete and impress. That's the Cat's Arse as far as I'm concerned.

I like a wood handle. Maybe because I've used house cues so much.

I don't see what purpose the wrap serves other than decoration. I don't think it improves the grip in any significant way.

If you don't have to appreciate linen wrap's purpose, you guys should consider yourselves lucky. For some of us, it is indispensable...

wrapped

I like wrapped cues, but perhaps that is because that's all I've ever really shot with. Linen wrap is preferred, because my hands tend to sweat a little when I am shooting.

My first cue (many years ago) had nylon wrap...hated it. It didn't provide any benefits of being wrapped (such as having any absorbency) and just felt rough.

Many people I know prefer wrap-less, however. I've just never shot with a wrap-less cue.

i have always preferred linen wrap on my cues. i like the feel. i can definately appreciate the beauty of a wrapless cue or very well done leather wrap though. i have seen many stunning wrapless cues and i've gotten to see some of the best leather wraps around on steve lomax's cues and wraps he has done for some of the guys around here. and when done as well as steve does, they look beautiful. i just don't like the feel.
as far as being suspect as to whats under the wrap, i have no worries on mine. dick neighbors built my cue. that should be enough said but i can say that i have pictires dick sent all through the building process and i have no worries. there was a problem with the maple handle he was going to use for my cue and he wound up using purple heart. i know, most of you would have left the purple heart exposed to show it off. but again for me i want to feel the linen under my grip. to each thier own.

Sounds like you may have already made up your mind. I like both for different reasons. If you really want to show off some pretty wood go with the wrapless.

Below are some pics of my Cameron Custom Cue.

I've played with Irish Linen for years and years, since the early '70s. Except for a couple of production sneaky petes. I just got my first made-for-me wrapless player by Kevin Varney. I'm liking it a lot!

I always owned cues with a white & green wrap because I love the old school look & feel. After I sold all my pool stuff a few months ago, I had to borrow my friends Meucci for 2 months for league and tourneys and I actually liked the wrapless feel now. Just bought a wrapless Predator SP and love it.

I know alot of people like linen wraps but if your useing a wrap to absorb moisture....remember your dealing with a tool that does not need or like moisture no matter how well you seal the wrap groove........

I'm not sure why, but Linen wraps just don't do it for me... I've had numerous cues in the past with 'em and to me...it just didn't feel right. Very slippery until moist...
As for wraps, Lizard skin has been my favorite so far out of the "leather group". The feel and looks are tops in my book... I've got a Zinzola coming with elephant skin, but until I can compare them...it's lizard hands down.

Now for the kicker!...I actually prefer wrapless...I've never had a wrapless cue get slippery, and on a standard 58" cue...my hand is past the wrap anyway...
Just my humble opinion...
wrapless first
exotic leather next...
Irish linen and I'll pass...
