Cuebuilder signatures and logos

Jaylon Haley (Ron's wife) signs Ron's cues and I believe her signature is the best in the business.

i like cues just to show off the wood, i build cues using the highest quality wood i can get, and i DO NOT like my crappy signature, so i use a security [ invisable ink ] pen to wright my name and date under the finish. it can only be seen when the cue is put under a ultraviolet light [ old hippies black light ]
plus, only the owner knows the signatiure is there so if ever ownership is questioned, he has the answer.
photos are of a brunswick conversion

thats brilliant

I agree.

I hate that my 14 picasso's have a shitty signature on them. I mean have you seen picasso's signature??????

I mean :barf: right??

Do you have OTHER people, with better writing skills, sign your checks to make them "look good"? If I am a banker, I want YOUR signature to IDENTIFY that YOU originated the check.

The same thing applies when I buy a cue. I want the cuemaker's own signature as HE prefers to use it on his cues. That is HIS mark...NOT something that is put on a cue as a cosmetic "beauty mark".

Aloha.

This is how I see it too. It is their cue to build and sign/mark. I collect full splice sneakies, and while I have a preference as to the look of the splice I want different makers splices (and a nice collection of woods  ). Some are sharp on both ends, others squared off, others obviously hand done with much effort, different lengths etc. Each has their own look and style and none can be argued as wrong or ugly.

And thanks for the laugh Walter, I now have am intestine image in my mind

I've held back discussing this topic since I got into custom cues as I was worried about offending owners of the cue or the Cuemaker. This may sound shallow but ever since I bought more than one cue, it's been more than just buying a cue to play with so aesthetics is definitely important. I buy cues I like looking at thus form over function for me.

Now and then I see nice cues that disappoints me with hideous logos, terribly signed or that they got their 2 year old to write on it. I do believe it totally destroys the look of the cue.

Many a times I want to tell the maker if you can't sign nicely just make decals that looks good. Tascarella for one has the nicest signature decal out there and it proves that decals work well when it looks good and doesn't cheapen the cue.

The best hand signed signature without a doubt goes to Ernie (GINA) cue. Must really wonder how many rounded surface he practiced on before getting this perfectly cool look.

The second nicest signature I've seen actually goes on a cue case, Jack Justis. Which brings me to another topic...past generations write a whole lot more and have much better penmanship than the younger generations who types more than they write this being able to developer nicer signature?

I agree with everything Jive said. I work at a bank and see what seems like a million signatures a day. The older members as a whole have a far better signature than the younger generations. They actually take a little more time and are much more deliberate about it. I can barely read what most people hand write and even the grammatical errors are atrocious.

Ernie's signature is hands down the best. Even the placement is perfect. I love the way he signs the forearm. The signature itself looks like a little bit of art on the cue where the most negative space is. I'm not really a fan of having a signature on a point or too close/on top of an inlay. I think one of the only ones to actually pull off the signing of a point is Tasc and that's just because his decal is very clean and perfect.

Do you really have Picassos? I love art, thou I got no smarts or talent myself...

Check out this book : Fake, by Clifford Irving. http://www.amazon.com/Fake-Story-Elmyr-Greatest-Forger/dp/0070320470

A great read and greater story of a man who went to the same schools as Picasso and also attained fame painting Picassos...and Matisses...and monets.

It is claimed that more than a few of the master's paintings housed in the world's most famous museums are actually de Hory's.

Sorry for the hijack!
