Cuemaker Articles

I know I'm going to regret this, but....

Since this is the gallery forum, I figured this might be the best place to ask. If there was one cuemaker you'd like to see an article about, who would it be and why?

Fred

I think its fairly obvious who my answer would be. I would love nothing more to than to read an article about the Mottey shop. Paul Mottey and James White are without a doubt my two top-choice cuemakers who skills rate them among the best.

As far as living legends of the cue making game, perhaps Bill Schick would be a good choice.

And as far as young guns go, I'd LOVE to see an article about Eric from Sugartree Custom Cues. Those are just some of my choices.

Mike Webb.

He is honest, ethical, and makes a great playing / looking cue.

Also:

Joel Hercek
Richard Chudy
Dennis Searing
Dan Dishaw

Mike makes a great cue and he is great to talk to as well he is a very ethical cue maker.
  2. Mike Bender
Mike has some awesome designs and his cues offer a great hit.
  3. Paul Mottey and James White Shop
Classical designs and some of the best playing cues.
  4. Bill Schick
Awesome stiff cues and the most creative designs.
  5. Joel Hercek
Creative designs and I would be interested in knowing what inspires the designs.

Paul Mottey shop.

Obviously you could talk about their superb craftsmanship, etc...and perhaps to hit another angle, you could ask them their opinions regarding the controversy of "replica" or "tribute" cues (copies).

Wow. I didn't realize it was that many.
I would have loved to have done articles on:

Layani Cues
Dan Dishaw
Barry Szamboti

But, alas, they were already featured before I started writing for IP.

Fred

OK. My final list.

1) Mottey (White)
2) Hercek
3) Schick
4) Ron Haley
5) Bob Manzino
6) Pete Tascarella Sr.
7) Dennis Searing
8) Ernie Gutierrez
9) Ernie Martinez (that would be an incredible read but good luck getting that one!)
10) John Showman
11) David Paul Kersenbrock (The only reason he is down here on the list is because while the read may be extremely interesting if approached the right way, the subject is also a little touchy.)
12) Tad Kohara
13) Eric Crisp

That's it. While some of the other cuemakers that have been mentioned already may be good cuemakers, they are not quite at this level just yet.

Mike Capone
Joel Hercek

My reason for both is that I like their work and I would like to know more about them.

I also wouldn't mind if you did updated stroies on the three that were done before your association with IP. :D

Tad Kohara, Gina, Eddie Prewitt, Ned Morris, Joel Hercek and Sugartree.

All good choices. And I love that someone else wants to know more about Sugartree like me! I've got one on order and everything (literally everything) I have ever heard or read about Eric and his cues is positive! And they look incredible. I can't wait to get mine!

Can I get back copies on some of these?
As for the cuemakers I think you should take a trip to FLA and talk to Showman and Searing.

For a great read, Joel Hercek at the moment. He has a very compelling story to tell. There are details of his relationship with Burton Spain that should be covered in a story.

Barry Szamboti is the other one - a great story and a great guy.

Besides these veterans, I would like to see some of the up and comers covered - of which there are many names to suggest.

Chris

In no particular order,
Searing
Mottey
T. Wayne
Gutierrez
Stroud
Schick
Blud
Hightower
Zeiler
Neighbors
B. Webb
M.Webb
Stacey
Showman
Dieckman
Dzuricky
That should last you a while. ;)
By the way, have you ever contacted a cuemaker that refused to be featured?

Tracy

Haley
Hercek
Paul Drexler
Jeff Olney
Manzino
Searing
Murray Tucker..

I would also like to get back copies of the articles already done.. Any way to get these Fred??
